Buying a plain (silver or otherwise) ring

Hi all,

Have been trawling the net for a while with no results.

I'm looking for a plain silver ring (although, if it was an unusual design, that would also work), but with no stones set into it. Every site inc on Ricardo, there are rings, but hardly ever just plain ones, does anyone know where to get one?

Cheers,
StirB

Before there was the internet for shopping, there were such things as shops.
I think ones that sell rings are called Jewellers - and can probably be found in towns, cities, shopping centres.

If you are fortunate enough to find one, they may have what you are seeking - or be able to source it - but it will involve meeting and conversing with other people, which internet shopping protects us from.

You want just a plain silver band? Send me a PM/email and I'll make you one. As long as you're happy a thickness of 1mm I have the silver already. If you want it chunkier I'd have to order it, but it's be pretty cheap. I'm pretty sure I still owe you for driving a van once upon a time anyway.

I'm sure before the internet you were also polite and helpful.

Yeah .... but not so sarcastic.

Anyway .... I thought I was being helpful - as from your opening post I got the impression that you were struggling to find what you were looking for in the virtual world, whereas for me (especially in a city), I'd have probably tried looking in a jeweller's shop first.

But call me old fashioned.

'Real Life' shop is a last resort really, i'd prefer not to pay the 2-3x markup when it most likely can be sourced far cheaper on t'internet.

For a lot of goods - probably a valid point; but for a plain silver ring, even with mark up, it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg - and I'm sure the difference between virtual and real worlds wouldn't be too great - including rip-off factor.

Even on the internet ".... all that glistens, is not gold."

Maybe consider tuning into one of the shopping channels - they also sell jewellery.

Personally, I would always prefer to see and touch (and try on) jewellery.

But, as you've had an offer from someone who can make you one, you may not need to look elsewhere.

I'm sure the expertise and time of someone with the right skills, also comes at a price.

There is always at least one jewellery stall at any market - which I'm sure there must be in ZH. Often artisan - sold by the craftsman (m/f), themselves.

Re: Buying a plain (silver or otherwise) ring

Where do you live? Try REIZ in Zürich HB, right around the corner from this hello restaurant http://www.reizschmuck.ch/index.php I bought a plain silver ring from there a few months ago. Otherwise, you can try the rosenmarkt at rosenhof every thursday and saturday http://www.rosenhof.ch/index.php or try searching Rhomberg, they have pretty cheap and simple stuff http://www.schmuck.ch/.
