Re: budget wedding

get a few friends to help out...

order food like sushi or sandwiches or stuff for the reception....

just don't save on getting a good photographer....the nice pictures will last and bring back nice memories...

there is on the forum someone who has 2nd hand gowns...try that maybe...

party...at home with a DJ friend?

Whatever your budget is, your wedding will cost twice that amount.

Sushi in Switzerland is too expensive and too over priced. Also the "official" caterer are taking quite some money.

I would look for a homemaker or a hobby cook to prepare the food. They are not as expensive as the ones who have it as their business, and homemade food is as good as any food you can buy.

You can also ask a gifted photographer in your friend circle to take the pictures.

Please provide more information, otherwise we're just guessing and wasting your time.

Do you mean the legal procedure? A party? Clown hire?

Re: budget wedding

There's loads of ways you can cut costs when planning a wedding:
  • Hire a D.J instead of a band.
  • Have your wedding during the day so you don't have to have a dinner - instead you can serve lunch or brunch
  • Serve champagne only during the cake cutting.
  • You can make your own wedding invitations.
  • limit your guests
  • make your own wedding favours.
Just a few tips to get you started on planning your wedding on a budget

Re: budget wedding

What's your budget and how many people are you planning on inviting? You can rent a room at any gemeinshaftszentrum for around CHF 350 for the entire evening http://www.gz-zh.ch/
Then all you have to organise is some one to clean up afterwards and the food.

And then for food:

Get Lankan curry catered from one of the joints on Josefstrasse. They will do it cheaply. If you like curry that is. Or from similar ethnic place that are cheap. There are a few Thai places around too.

Booze you can get from Denner cheap. Even fine single malt for the special guests.

Re: budget wedding

For our wedding apero we had the food catered from Migros, as it was a lunchtime apero we had sandwhiches etc. I had a friend pick up all the food. For 70 people I paid around CHF 700, but there was a lot of food left over ,so I guess I could have spent around CHF 500 and still fed 70 people. Migros does really good cheese and meat platters (which is what we ordered) sandwhiches, buns and mini canapes.

Don't forget: The wedding might be cheap but the consequences will turn out ten times more expensive. Think about...

Re: budget wedding

You can get married for CHF 100 if you want (excluding registration costs). You spend what you want according to your budget.

Spectacular weddings fail spectacularly anyway

Re: budget wedding

Go on ebay for dresses/shoes/favours etc. Even if it means paying the postage from the UK for example, it will turn out a lot cheaper. (Put it this way.....it can't be any more expensive than buying everything here!)

Good luck.

Re: budget wedding

Why do people insist on celebrating weddings at all? It's such a scam. Use the money to go on a trip to the Maldives, instead of a cheesy band, cr*p food and people of whom 3/4s you never regularly speak to anyway.

go to Maldives and get married there, you'll get honeymoon on top - two birds killed with one stone. and most relatives you don't want to see anyway would hopefully be too stingy to fly all the way

Re: budget wedding

Instead of wedding gifts, get every guest to chip in for the celebration. I.e. one organises and pays for the flowers, one makes some snacks, one can organise a band/music, one can make the cake, one can organise and rent the room - etc, etc.
Make a list of what you think you will need (at the very least) and try to spread it around.
We were "given" two wonderful gifts: a magician and a jazz trio - organised by some family members to arrive some time during the celebration. We were completely surprised - it was great! Much better than a set of ancient bed-linen!

Re: budget wedding

Why have a cr*p wedding like 99.99% of all chumps. Thinks of something original that will cost little.

Get married in Croatia.

I think there's a bus that leaves from Zurich every now and again.
