Re: Remembering Begga

I am going to go to my bank tomorrow afternoon and set up an account that everybody who wants to contribute can transfer some money into.
I should be able to post it by tomorrow afternoon - it will be on here as soon as I have the info.

Thanks to everybody for the support, thanks to Nicky for setting this up and especially Sherry who has been an amazingly strong woman and organizer.

This is a brutally challenging time for all of us. Thanks to all of our friends here who have been brought so much closer together by this tragedy.
If you need to contact me, please do so via e mail

Begga, we love and miss you.

I'll believe some of the Basel gang will be there to support her mother. She will need a lot of help to come over and take care of the paperwork, the cleaning of Begga's possessions, the bureaucratie, etc.

She will need a lot of physical and emotional support.
Nil, you are right, there will be much for her mother to deal with. Also, as Begga was working, there will be a need to contact her employer regarding the accident insurance that was in place. Hopefully there will be some financial assistance from that.

I thought about a paypal account - maybe we set one up and then transfer the money into the account of someone in Basel (Likely Isa) for her to add to it to the collection to give to Beggas mother by Wednesday?

How soon can an account be set up?
As far as I remember, a PayPal account that can receive money (donations or whatever) must be connected to a regular bank account. The first thing PayPal does after registering is veryfying that account by crediting it with two token amounts (one or two CHF) plus a code sent to the bank that will appear in the payment notice of the bank. Then the account holder must communicate that code back to PayPal to enable transfers. That takes at least two days. That's how it was last year; in one case it took five days. I don't think it is any different now.

Re: Remembering Begga

If I can assist with my (Swiss) German, please let me know !

I would love to provide a hand, if I can and the help is needed.

I know everyone speaks English in Switzerland, but sometimes it just helps to get the communication through in a native language.

Great thanks ISA for coming and clarifying my sketchy ramblings. Will await details tomorrow.

Thinking of you all in Basel today at the BBQ I'll be there in thought.

I'm wondering if someone who will be in contact with her mother can print out these important two threads to hand it over to her. I'm sure it will make her feel good to know how Begga was loved and touched so many.

Re: Remembering Begga

If some people in Geneva area want to join me to raise a glass to Begga's memory we could do something this week.

She was one of the EF members I would have loved to meet....

We could even do it all over Switzerland at the same time.

Thank you for doing this. I’m sure that many members, like myself, are feeling pretty helpless at the moment and your effort will make it possible for us to do something positive.
Much appreciated ! Thank you !

I've wanted to link to the thread here on her facebook page, but as I didn't know her well, I didn't think it was my place. Hopefully someone who was close to her will do so, so her family and friends back in Iceland can see how well-loved she was in Switzerland.

I think they already knows, if I believe all the posts you can read on her profile. She was really really loved by everybody... it's such a tragedy.

That would be a great idea that an intimate friend of her could post the links.

well, another thing : In Geneva, we put flowers by the side of the road where somebody we knew or loved was killed in an accident.
Is it the same in the Swiss-German part ?

Re: Remembering Begga

I am not there to take any actions sadly....

But I got an idea:

She has a wonderful collections of beautiful pictures. Why not take those pictures, developing them, putting them in nice frames and make a really nice exposition open to public?

That will be the best tribute for her and her passion!

And the money you are collecting now, if not to give to her mother, could contribute to this. And who knows, maybe she could bring them back home or it could be sold to raise money, etc..

Just a thought...
