Re: Remembering Begga

Guys, I may not be a mod anymore but...I can't sit by and watch the whole thread turn into a discussion about traffic laws and other people dying. Since you didn't listen to the mod who has posted on this thread, I don't think you'll listen to me, either, but......

Let's use this thread to remember Begga, rather than discuss the details and the changes which should/could be made. If you want to discuss those things, please start a new thread.

Thanks

Re: Remembering Begga

I understand people grieve differently..some need to go through the scenario, some stay away from haunting images, some cry, some keep things private.

I bet Beggs would want us to focus on the lovely part of life. Out of piety and respect (and her dearest friends and family possibly reading this), we need to stick to her strong influence, let's recall all the wonderful moments she provided for us and how much she managed to change the relief of this community and our hearts.

Re: Remembering Begga

I remember last year, when we were on the train going to Zurich for one of the Ploughmans Lunches. She had Teckla with her and had a travel bag... Being Begga, when the conductor came around, she "attempted" to "stuff" Teckla in the bag, scrunching her down as small as possible. It was hilarious... The ticket collector then came by and was going to make her buy a ticket for Teckla.

Begga said... No.. No... Small Dog... Small Dog... You could see Teckla all scrunched down and trying to get up.... Then the collector got the snack cart person to come over and a discussion ensued as to the size of the dog.... In the end, she did have to pay,... But on the way back, it worked Way to go Begga !!!!!

Re: Remembering Begga

She was the winner of the spring photo competition and we had subsequently a brief conversation about the prize to be sent over. At that time she said how happy she is to have met such lovely people in Switzerland and how it changed her life so much. She said good bye with the words: someday to give this back to me one way or the other.

Reading all those posts I think how much she actually gave to all of us - one way or the other.

I heard about it on Friday evening. Had her "picture" in my mind all the weekend. It is so shocking !
I never knew Begga.
I never met her, never interacted directly with her on EF.
Never even exchanged PM's for rep or otherwise.
I saw her for the first time from the pics posted after this incident by Ef'ers.

But, for some reason that escapes me, I have not been able to stop thinking about her since I heard about this. I do not know why. I do not understand how I can be so deeply moved by the loss of someone who I barely knew.

But, something inside me is mourning her loss.
I am sure I am not the only one, but EF has really turned us into one big family. I know this sounds a tad unrealistic, but this is how I feel. We spend a good part of our days on this forum and, unknowingly, have formed a bond with everyone here. We may not know each other too well, but we exist for each other, if only in this realm.

This might be why I am missing her so much. This might be why I cannot explain why I feel like crap ever since I heard about this, and why my thoughts are not making sense. This has to be it.

Although I could not be in Basel to share this feeling with others and honor Begga with others, there has not been a moment when I have not thought about her since.

I bid you, dear friend-in-spirit, a fond farewell.
May you rest in peace.

I wish I had known you better.

Re: Remembering Begga

sorry... out of the loop here...
.
what happened to Begga?... had she been ill?

EDIT:... I've just been informed and pointed to the post informing of her passing.

Begga and I were not "friends" here.. just the odd post from time to time... but I am truly shocked by this.

RIP.

Re: Remembering Begga

Dear EF friends, I think it is wonderful that so many people have left verbal tributes here and imagine that these will be of some comfort to Begga's family as they go through the grieving process. Perhaps they will be reading them now. Perhaps not for a year or more. Time varies.

I have noticed that people are forming ideas, wanting some tangible event to celebrate Begga and remember her. However, I am thinking that perhaps a little time needs to go by before anything anywhere near formal, or public, is arranged and then, only after gently discussing the ideas with Begga's immediate family first.

I would put any idea of a display of Begga's photographs in that category. On her blog site, it says that her photographs are not to be used without permission. I think legally, and definitely morally and sensitively, those photographs now belong to Begga's next of kin.

Personal photographs that people have taken of Begga, are of course public domain. But, even there, ( as much as I have appreciated the few beautiful ones posted to EF) I am wondering ....... post here, so that her family can access them as they search through for reasons and memories? Someone co-ordinate in a less public point, to produce an album of photgraphs of Begga=s life in Switzerland, to give to her family? I don't know the correct answer on this, so am just posing the questions.

Kindest regards to everyone.

Re: Remembering Begga

I know an exhibition of her work has been suggested, how about also doing a run and sale of some of her excellent horse pictures from grumpy's farm with the money going to her family or charity close to her heart. I know my mrs would love a big print of some of her pictures, don't know if anyone has the hires pic's or what the legal side of things would be, but to have her work hanging on peoples walls I think would be a fitting tribute

eta anyone know what happening with her dog??

Re: Remembering Begga

Last night I kept thinking of Begga.

Last winter, it was before Christmas, I was coming back home with my daughter, it was lunch time and it was a cold and grey day.

I saw this woman outside, in front of the Starbuck coffee of SBB. She had this long red coat with bright blond hair. It was impossible to not notice her and everyone was looking at her. It was like those pictuce in black and white with only one person in color.

Begga was this Blondie in the red coat on a grey day.

She was just standing there, waiting for something or someone. We spoke a bit, she laughed at my not that big belly, made fun of me because I called myself a Beluga.

She was cheerful and pretty and she made me smile just by seeing this woman in red. She was stunning standing there surround by grey people, grey beton and a grey sky.

This is the picture I will remember her.

Re: Remembering Begga

I never met Begga in real life, but like so many others have been touched by her presence on EF.

Whenever I was feeling down about life here in CH I would log on to EF, intending to grumble and moan. But sure enough I would usually find that Begga had posted something funny, irreverent, inspirational . She had the gift of not only being able to see the bright side herself, but also to inspire others to do likewise. Her posts would cheer me up, put things into perspective, motivate me to get up and do something rather than wallow. She was clearly a very special person and I, although a complete stranger, will miss her.

So let me say here what I should have said many times over the years: Thank you, Begga.

Re: Remembering Begga

Last night I was contacted by a member of Begga's community in Iceland as they'd found a picture of mine that they wished to use in an obituary for her. Naturally I immediately provided a full HiRes version. It's not the picture that I've already posted here or on facebook, but another one taken seconds before.

I just thought you guys would like to see this picture as well.

Although I never met Begga either, I will remember her as someone with so much positive energy, so much light, really beautiful inside, and talented. I like the way Nil described her in her red coat standing out in a sea of grey people. And we are all a little better for knowing her, albeit virtually.... we can all benefit from knowing that positive energy.

Re: Remembering Begga

I almost feel guilty only finding out about this late last night.

I was in too much shock and couldn't think of how best to reply to this.

I guess the best thing to do is to share the only time I met Begga.
It was at the Viadukt and I was sitting with Summerrain and ClareJane at the Royal wedding thing. Upthehatters was dressed as Denise the Menace and I was talking to this tall goodlooking blonde girl. She was really cool and fun to talk to and had a crazy accent...... then I was told she was Begga.

"..... I smiled because" I loved everything she ever posted here, so it was a real honor to meet her.

I will miss her.
