Re: Remembering Begga

Actually, this is how I'll remember Begga. Stood on a table, giving it her all.

Go on girl!

So what exactly are we donating to here? Memorial services? Helping the family with transportation/expenses coming back and forth to Switzerland from Iceland? And do we have any idea what kind of financial assistance they need?

I am donating regardless; I just want to have a little better idea what my money is going to. Thanks in advance!

Is there a chance you could add a version as an attachment? I can't view Flickr pics from here.

Thank you.
Attachment added. I've left the Flickr link there, because if you follow it you'll see that Begga herself commented on this photo.

I guess the best thing to do is to share the only time I met Begga.
It was at the Viadukt and I was sitting with Summerrain and ClareJane at the Royal wedding thing. Upthehatters was dressed as Denise the Menace and I was talking to this tall goodlooking blonde girl. She was really cool and fun to talk to and had a crazy accent...... then I was told she was Begga.
The look on your face when you found out - I couldnt contain my laughter.

She looked so pretty that day in that dress. *sigh* I wish I agreed to take a picture with her, rather than being my usual camera-shy self, so that we have more memories. I remember she said that she bought that dress specially in honour of the wedding.

Always threw herself with such enthusiasm into everything and anything. Her tourist get-up on beardsy's Tourist Stimulator Day was ace. I couldnt stop laughing when I saw her pictures.

Thanks for sharing. The "Being alone doesn't mean you have to be lonely" is just mind-blowing. Great talent and sense of humour.

Re: Remembering Begga

I read of an accident in the Basler Zeitung, saw the discussion on 7vor7 on TV.

It bothered me all weekend. An accident. A fellow cyclist.

And now I log in to the EF - and learn it was Begga.

Oh, no, no, no, no...

Edit:
Life's so bizarre.
About a week ago, I was in town with my sister and Begga walked past.
And I wondered, "Should I say Hi?
Nah, she's obviously lost in thought.
Next time."

Re: Remembering Begga

I've moved all posts relating to payment into the special account set up for Begga's family to http://www.englishforum.ch/daily-lif...ollection.html

This would probably be the best place to discuss payment and problems encountered thereof.

Last night I was contacted by a member of Begga's community in Iceland as they'd found a picture of mine that they wished to use in an obituary for her. Naturally I immediately provided a full HiRes version. It's not the picture that I've already posted here or on facebook, but another one taken seconds before.

I just thought you guys would like to see this picture as well.
Gosh, just seeing her picture makes me cry......

Re: Remembering Begga

I have been thinking, that perhaps on the drop down menu under "Community" there should be an, "In Memorandum" section.

For a few reasons.

Firstly, you could have some quotes and some photographs, as it would be a reflection of time spent in Switzerland. Not only photographs of Mark and Begga, but also photographs that they had both taken, as they both had a love of photography.

Secondly, it would give new members an indication of the kind of community we have, and show that it is not just any other forum.

Just a thought.

Re: Remembering Begga

Thanks to all the Basler's that made such a lovely tribute to Begga on Sunday. It was great to meet you all, if only it could have been under happier circumstances.

I was truely impressed with Sherry, who despite her obvious pain made everyone feel so welcome. Thank you.

Re: Remembering Begga

One thing that always struck me about Begga was that she wasn't keen to just sit in the expat bubble and was looking to learn German so she could integrate better. More than once I noticed her decline social events because of German lessons.

A lot more than could be said about me who is quite happy to speak really loudly at shopkeepers like an American tourist.

Re: Remembering Begga

Oh my God! I haven't been on EF properly for ages, been over in the UK and just back ot CH now. I couldn't believe it! I don't know what happened so will have to read the threads. She was so supportive when I was heading over to Basel last year and seemed such a nice, fun person and was always involved in everything to make EF fun to belong to. I never met her but I know I would have liked her.

What a huge loss to EF and all her friends and family. My condolences.

Pam

I didn't even know her and I am crying now as I read all these posts. And I am trying to figure out what happened....a road accident as she was cycling? What a tragedy and a terrible waste of such a vibrant young life.

Begga will be sorely missed by everyone.

I didn't know Begga very well- but she was an amazingly talented photographer, with a real eye for capturing the moment, and a very sweet girl. Base won't be the same without her.

She even turned down meeting me once, because it clashed with her laundry schedule. That's integration for you (and not a comment on me, obviously).
