Remembering Begga

It seems to me like a good idea to have a thread for suggestions and responses to ideas for honouring Begga and her memory.

To kick off...

When a colleague died a few years ago, we held a meeting in one of the big rooms - photos and candles, and an open microphone. Each of us who wanted to went to the mike, and spoke about him - our memories of his life and our experience of him. A memorial service for "religious" and non-religious alike.

Lots of hugs, love, laughter and of course tears. It was a celebration of a life, and it brought closure.

I know there's the bbq today (Sunday), but perhaps a service as described above would be good to have?

Re: Remembering Begga

I've made the request to move your most excellent suggestion - which actually was my inspiration for this thread.

For the memorial service idea, the Basel English Panto Group have a large cellar that can be hired for a very reasonable fee - which I'd be more than happy to pay - that would probably make a pretty good venue.

Does anyone know some more details about this get-together in Basel today. I'm not on facebook so can't see what's being planned on there, but I want to come and cry with others who loved her.

The get-together is at Erlenparkweg 55, Basel. http://map.search.ch/basel/erlenparkweg-55 We will be along the river bank & not at the restaurant from 2 PM onwards. If you or others plan to join, send me a PM & I will send you my contact details.

Oldhand, possibly a better solution would be if you could edit the original post with a link to this thread. I've never moved a post into a thread that was created after the post to be moved was created, and the last thing I want to do is screw things up chronologically or otherwise, especially on these 2 two threads. Besides I thought that your original post is really quite fitting where it is.

I think this is a great idea by the way.

Re: Remembering Begga

I'll believe some of the Basel gang will be there to support her mother. She will need a lot of help to come over and take care of the paperwork, the cleaning of Begga's possessions, the bureaucratie, etc.

She will need a lot of physical and emotional support.

I would like to suggest also, if someone have access to her photography, we can collect all the photos and i can build a website to honor her beautiful work and write a little biography of her, it's just an idea to honor and remember such a beautiful person

I am not sure yet about the time, but I will post it later on the thread
after talking to the others so that all of you can join us in spirit.

I will also keep you posted about any further event we may do here for celebrating our beloved's friend life on a later date.

Re: Remembering Begga

Hi all

regarding colletions etc…

I have been talking to Sherry (sherryvisione) and they plan to give the collection money to Beggas mother on Wednesday to help with arrangements. This poses a difficulty to people who can't make the BBQ today to give in person

Isa Hollenbacher is handling the collection money and from what i understand via sherry she is going to go to the bank tomorrow to figure out a payment plan for people to pay into (not confirmed info is still sketchy) OR find an appointed person to give the donation to who will hand it over in person to Isa (Grumpy sherry mentions you are heading to Basel on Tuesday? If this is the case then you are perfectly situated in Zurich for people to give the donations to? - Or sherry says she is possibly seeing you in Zurich on Tuesday too so you could hand it to her then?)

Isa has agreed for her email to be posted on here (maybe mods delete it after wednesday) for anyone to mail her to arrange payment or get payment details

I am sorry the above is all a bit sketchy but as you can imagine Sherry is busy busy arranging todays BBQ and didn't have time to talk to me at length but has asked if I can put this information on here at least then people know the situation and the rough plan ASAP

I will email Isa and Grumpy now to see if I can make firmer plans

(hope I am not out of line posting this - just hope it helps)

For those of us who are unable to attend but would like to contribute would it be possible to make some arrangement to enable this ? Perhaps someones post bank account number which could be requested by PM, for example ?

What about setting up a paypal account so that people could donate money directly into that and then the details could be passed onto Beggas mother? Also a paypal "donate" button could be put on this thread which will link directly to the paypal account. paypal donations

I have seen your post above, this is just another suggestion for you to consider. It would be quicker to set up and could go directly to the mother of Begga. It's great that you are organizing something to facilitate us donating and of course as soon as the details are confirmed I will be donating myself.

Actually I may pop over to the BBQ and drop money off myself.

Re: Remembering Begga

I thought about a paypal account - maybe we set one up and then transfer the money into the account of someone in Basel (Likely Isa) for her to add to it to the collection to give to Beggas mother by Wednesday?

How soon can an account be set up?

I don't know about others, but what would vary the amount I'd donate would be the amount of the need - does anyone know?
