plastic bags in the compost bin

Is it allowed to put the biodegradable stuff wrapped in a plastic bag for the compost bin? I wouldn't think so, as the plastic is not bio degradable. But, I see many people throwing their stuff in there in a plastic bag. Should I also use the plastic bag?

Re: plastic bags in the compost bin

You can buy special degradable bags. They appear to be like paper fishnet stockings.

Both Coop and Migros (and I assume most other supermarkets have these sorts of bags. The are plastic bags, just a bit thinner than normal. Careful, they aren't completely water tight!

I agree - have to be careful sometimes. I take the stairs (not the elevator) on my walk to the bins... just in case.

I use these bags (I get mine from Landi) and they are great. Saves all that yucky stinking stuff getting stuck to the bottom of my little compost bin.

Re: plastic bags in the compost bin

There should be all types of biodegradable bags and plastics---(although I havn't checked myself).

Back home we only used biodegradable plastic cups for keg-parties. They held liquid properly, and composted well too! You wouldn't be able to tell the difference without looking at the polymerstamp
