| | Lost wallet!
Hey guys, I live in the Webermühle flats near Baden, and this morning I left my wallet at the Webermühle bus stop.
Normally I would assume it's lost forever, but being Switzerland perhaps someone has handed it in somewhere.
The problem is, I don't speak German and I don't know who to contact And it's the long weekend. I tried calling the bus company, but they didn't speak English, and I tried calling the local police but the office is closed.
Help!

Help! | | | | | Didn't you have an ID of some sort in it? If so, and if an honest person picked it up, then they will surely find a way of contacting you, or turn the wallet in to the authorities and let them contact you.
Sorry I can't help with who to call, but being somewhat cynical myself, I would carry on by assuming it lost and go about the necessary task of reporting its contents stolen (debit/credit cards) as well as beginning the process of replacing any identification, etc.
That really sucks. Hope you are able to get it back.

Just go to your local police and ask if anybody speaks English and ask them to contact the bus company- or at least give you details of their 'lost' property office. Do you have a neighbour, colleague or friend who speaks German and can come with you>
Today I went for a lovely walk with a EF member and her lovely son. he found an Iphone -and 30 mins later it rang- I replied and 5 mins later phone and owner were re-united, and the finder got a nice bag of Haribos. There are lots of honest people around. Viel Glueck.

I just mean to say that since it is possibly a bad weekend for contacting the authorities, you might be well-advised to go forward assuming the worst rather than find yourself starting from that point next week.
Good luck! |

I found a great digital camera on a walk in the UK a couple of years back. I looked at the pictures and didn't know any of the people (lots of family shots at Christmas)- so it wasn't a local person. I took the camera to the local shop, the 2 hairdressers, the butcher's - nobody knew anybody. So I phoned the police with all the details - and nobody ever claimed it. police said I could keep it. Stupid thing is, so many people assume that there is no chance of finding lost property, they don't even try to find it.

I had once left my purse at the bus stop at the Baden Bahnhof. I went to the RBW office straight away, no one had turned it in. I called the next day, still not there.
About three days later, I went into the Fundbuero and it was there, completely intact, cash and all. I had to pay either CHF 20 or 25, to get it. I was told it was turned in by one of the maintenance, guys who clean up at the Bahnhof. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I've put up a German "lost" sign, where I think I lost it, and I will head over to the local SBB office and police station tomorrow. Thanks again for your help, I'll keep this thread updated with what happens.

Just an update: I got my wallet back! Someone put it in my mail box two days after I lost it, everything still inside , including money. Gotta love Switzerland. Thanks again for the help.

I once left a purse with my wallet, cash, and a slew of gift cards from x-mas on a park bench in Midtown Atlanta (USA). A homeless person turned it into the social worker at the homeless shelter and she called me at my office from the little stack of business cards left inside. Hurray - wonderful. It would be rally nice to place another note to say 'thank you[ and ask the finder to join you for a beer!
My dad once lost my binoculars in Scotland on a bus. I'd lent them to him for the trip. The next day we had a phone call from a guy in Edinburgh to say he'd found it (I'd taped one of our business cards inside). Turns out he recognized the name and was at Uni in London with my OH. My dad was very embarrassed about losing them - and just couln't believe it when he found them waiting for him on their return. There are indeed great people everywhere.

Do you know whom the 'Someone' is? You need to give them a reward, which is usually 10% of the value of the lost item.

No unfortunately, the person didn't leave any kind of details, but I will take Odile's advice and put up a thank you note and beer invitation | The following 2 users would like to thank Tonkelate for this useful post: | |
