Cash-on-delivery US-CH

Dear all,
my friend from New York is going to send me a parcel, and I don't want her to pay for the dispatching. Is far as I know, there usually is a possibility to pay on delivery, but I don't know how it could be implemented I'd appreciate any tips on sending packages free of charge and paying upon receipt. Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Cash-on-delivery US-CH

I would actually be quite surprised if that was possible, so you may instead need to just reimburse your friend or wire the money to him or her in advance to cover the shipping cost.

And in case this is of any help... I'm from the US and have found that the cheapest way to send anything here is through the US post office (International Priority Mail). It's much, MUCH cheaper than using Fed Ex or DHL. Also, be sure to have your friend mark the package as a "gift" and, if possible, to value the contents at under $100 so that you can avoid having to pat VAT or customs when you receive it.

Re: Cash-on-delivery US-CH

If the recipient has an account with them, then DHL will allow the sender to bill the cost to the receiver.

As Carrie F said, it's unlikely they'd do it COD as there's no guarantee that they will be paid.

Can I bill another party for a shipment?
Yes, DHL also provides you the option to charge shipments to a receiver or third party other than the shipper account. When preparing your waybill, enter the appropriate payment option and be sure to include a valid DHL account number for the receiver or third party.

It's amazing how much can be fitted into a Global Priority envelope for about $12. It can be packed until it's almost round.
I receive 2 or 3 a month and have never had to pay duty on any of them so far.
