my first summer here was crazy as well
but you need to get a net for the windows and also these things that you plug into the energy sockets the release an odour with repels the insects . so useful .

So for some amazing reason I avoided getting covered in insect bites this summer. I got bitten arouvd 10 times yesterday, all over my back and my fingers.

The best repellent ever is "Deet":

They sell it in different concentrations, but you have to watch out with applying it on wounds or damaged skin (see also Wiki page).
I only use deet and it works really well, you can actually see the mosquito's coming towards you and when they are too close they are just leaving again
