hi everyone,

I am moving to Switzerland in less than a month, and obviously I'm super excited about the move and about starting my MA at the University of Bern!!

I was wondering if anyone else is a student at the University of Bern. I've never been to Bern, only Zurich and St. Gallen, so I'm a little nervous about going to school in Bern (and possibly getting lost!).

what will you be studying?

I will be studying in the Political and Economic Philosophy (PEP) Master's program. I'm so excited about starting this program! I got my Uni card in the mail a week ago and I'm so excited about the classes available for the fall semester!

Do you enjoy working at the University of Bern? Whats your favorite part about the University?

yes i do enjoy working there! i'm lucky to have very nice colleagues!

i enjoy...having lunch with this view (don't do it as often as i should..)

i hear that uni sport offers a lot of cheap possibilities, check it out

bern doesn't have a very exciting nightlife though...be prepared. unless there are secret places for students that i'm not aware of....:P

But there are great thrift stores I saw in Bern...

Bern's a lovely city, and I think you'll enjoy living there. It can be quiet, but that's good for studying, right? THe Uni is pretty small. I don't think you'll get lost - not much, anyway. There's not much of a campus feel, like you might be used to in the US - it's an urban campus, but that can work out well too. One of the buildings used to be part of the Toblerone chocolate factory (the Uni Tobler).

On a clear day, the views behind the Hauptgebaude (main building) are amazing. Definitely more hills than Ohio, too.

My husband was in the faculty, but is now at Uni Zurich. I don't know anyone in your program - it's in philosophy, isn't it? Good luck! Hope it works out well.

@ crimson: thanks for the link to the sports at the University of Bern! i'll definitely need to take a break from studying, and working out/playing sports will be perfect! the link for the picture didn't work, it just brought me to google.com

@musicChick: love love love thrift stores, even just for browsing and windowshopping! are they like antique/thrifty or are they more like salvation army, etc? and i'm super excited about this program! i'll definitely post about the program once it starts!

@edot: i'm definitely used to a more campus feel, but i have a feeling i'll enjoy the urban campus atmosphere with Bern, plus i'm sure there will be tons to explore (cafes, etc). and thats awesome about one of the buildings being a former Toblerone factory!! love love love chocolate! i'll have to google Hauptgebaude (though i think i know which building you are talking about) and most places are more hilly than Ohio lol (though Northeast Ohio (where i live) has some hills, and no cornfields, thankfully!)

The program is in the philosophy department (i think) and the classes i'll be taking focus on major political, social, and economic issues in today's world. I think i'll be able to tailor my Master's to whatever major global issue I choose (ie AIDs, homelessness, resource allocation in healthcare, income distribution, human trafficking, human rights, animal rights, etc). I'm really excited about having the freedom to choose what i want to study and having the ability to tackle important issues.

I have a feeling i'll be spending a lot of time reading tons of material! lol

that would teach me to try to steal pictures from google!
