Anyway, I find that twisting language is fun. But I look out the window, do crafty things - crochet, bead. Walking, stretching. I also meditate. That relieves a lot of stress.

for me: get a hobby, be creative, build stuff.
There's this other thread about people being misserable and losing creativity after they moved to Switzerland, for me it's the other way around, never been as creative as I've been here (see picture for current project)... | This user would like to thank BasP72 for this useful post:

If something directly impacts you but you can't change the outcome, what's the point stressing then? It is how it is.
If you can change the outcome then it's obviously better to work on making sure the outcome is in your favour or the negative impact is at least minimised than getting all stressed up about it.
I'm happy to say I'm rarely stressed | This user would like to thank yjt for this useful post:

sometimes I over react to situations that require more subtlety or no reaction whatsoever. As long as I avoid this bad trait, I am usually just fine at the end of the day. With all the responses on this thread combined, one cannot go far wrong. Hard rewarding exercise, Sex, Music, and definitely work to live and retire as soon as possible so as to spend more time doing stuff you enjoy. Oh, meditation, one thing we should all do and become masters of.

Don't do what I've just done and spend Sfr.11.90 on a packet of biscuits
I was in a hurry and buying other stuff so that I didn't notice, until I got home, that a simple packet of cantucci biscuits cost that much.
I really can hardly believe it, and will get absolutely no pleasure from eating them now
Stupid old fool that I am, but 11.90 for BISCUITS. How can that be?
Really stressed out about something so silly.

In my opinion, exercise is by far and away the best form of stress reduction - preferably followed by a few pints of strong beer :-)

I love painting (abstract) and listening to ambient music...
The ambient music also accompanies a candle-lit bubble bath quite nicely in the winter and autumn months.
I also love going down to the lake and just watching the flow of the water and the sunlight dance upon it.
Very zen. | This user would like to thank Pancakes for this useful post:

Exercise and good diet are important. If you are physically healthy, you are more able to cope with mental stresses. Watch out for the tell-tale signs of developing stress: aches, irritability, irregular sleep etc.
Stimulants are not a good idea. They may give temporary relief but are only masking the problem.
The other main thing is talk to people. Lack of proper communication is a major cause of stress. If you don't tell people there is a problem they may not guess until it is too late.
Admitting that you are getting stressed is not a sign of weakness or failure. Stress is an illness that can be treated.

Yoga and making love.
@OP, if you're feeling stress is taking over making you nervous, you can try some Yogi Breathing exercises.
If you'd like you can put a belt around your chest, and hold it firm with your hands closed in front of you. Then you breath in to your abdomen, and up to your ribcage (the belt helps to feel that you are breathing deeply into the back of your ribcage).
Then exhale from your ribcage, and then your belly will flatten and fall in.
You will have to do this many times until you have a steady flow, at the beginning your breath pattern will be probably bumpy and it will feel a bit awkward... if you master it though, it is an instant stress reliever, and your body and mind will get very calm and relaxed.

| | Re: how to avoid stress?
Life is full of stressors. It is how you respond to these stressors that will determine how stress you will have in your life. It is a case of "learning" how not to respond to the stressors.
Another problems with a stress response is how quickly you can return back to calmer state or in others words how resilient you are. Again something that can be learned.
