Where to buy electric cable in Zurich

Hi everyone,
I need to buy 10metres of electric cable to take electricity from one room to another one. I have a small hole in the wall, enough for a wire to fit but not enough for the plug to enter it. So I just need a cable and a separated plug or cable + detachable plug. I've found the plug in Migros but they haven't got any cable. Do you know where can I find it? (maybe near Farbhoff or at least in the zone 10?). My flatmate wasn't able to help me at all.

Thank you!

Jumbo (now CoOp bau & hobby) at Leitzipark, the Migros DIY shop near there closed a few years ago.

Re: Where to buy electric cable in Zurich

Do you city dwellers have access to Landi? - they have cable to cut.

..... but here is a simple alternative - buy a 10m (or 2x 5m) extension cable; cut the plug off; shove the cable thru' the wall and reattach the plug.

I don't know what's Landi! I was thinking about cutting the plug off and then reattaching it but it looks like the plugs you have here in Zurich don't have any screw so I don't know how to attach the plug back.

They sell cable in Migros Brunau (near Sihlcity) and they sell plugs with screws in virtually every Coop and Migros.

Yes, the shop assistant in Migros told me they have it in Brunau but I tought it was outside the city (it looked a bit far on the map and I don't have one with zones). However Letzipark is really close so I'll try there first!

My favourite is Pusterla on Hohlstrasse. They tend to be cheaper that Coop and have a broader choice of items.

Re: Where to buy electric cable in Zurich

Hi,
Related to "electric cable" in Switzerland:

Anyone knows if it has 2 or 3 "wires" inside the "cable"?

I see 3 bars in the plug but I don't know if there's necessarily 3 cables-

I can have French Cables for very cheap but they are 2 cables only...

(it's for making an extension to a "Multi-plug thing" with dominos and cable).

Thanks,

Both 2 wire & 3 wire extension cables are available in CH, Ikea has short ones.

You can buy ready-made extension cables with both 2 and 3 wires, so if in doubt buy one of those rather than making your own and potentially causing a dangerous situation.

It is important that if the extension cable has only two wires, that you cannot plug a three cable plug in. You must therefore buy socket parts that have only two holes so that the three prong plug will not fit. This is important because at first you may remember but there may come a day that you forget or somebody else borrows the cable and they connect a device that needs that third cable and a dangerous situation arises.

If in doubt, always connect the three.

I would buy a 3 pin one regardless, I have seen the earth prong cut rather too often.
