Zymogen is a type of protein that can be biochemically transformed within an organism into an enzyme. Zymogens typically transform into enzymes that break down other proteins.
Nerdy & Menacing, I like that.

I see your transforming enzyme/protein and raise you a evolutionary monster:

Quote:
A Darwinian Demon is a hypothetical organism that can maximize all aspects of fitness simultaneously and would exist if the evolution of species was entirely unconstrained. Such organisms would reproduce directly after being born, produce infinitely many offspring, and live indefinitely.
Learned it from my 1st lecture @ Uni. of Toronto 10 years ago from the most pretentious professor on earth. Bleh.

There's one problem in that hypothesis. An animal that contains all aspects of fitness yet reaches reproductive age at birth and reproduces infinite offspring which live indefinitely have to have a food source, and those food sources do not have the same fitness. Therefore this is a paradox, because the Darwinian Demon would quickly run out of food sources and starve to death therefore driving itself into extinction, and thus lacking true fitness.

The end.

They can live off each other. You feed part of the offsprings and the +40 year olds to your sprogs. And they lived happily ever after.

And I am so dorky, I actually wondered, "Gatsby fan?", when I first saw your nick!
After I had finished the book, I was for some weeks indeed quite tempted to place an "old sport!" in conversations.
I could resist. Thank god... the posh language and the 20's made me a bit dizzy.

so it's a perpetually reproducing, gluttonous, cannibalistic species? Seems like I've either seen this in a horror movie or an episode of the Simpsons...

I thought I'd be clever and use my real name in the hope that people wouldn't think someone would be so stupid as to use their real name

Now, which episode could that be? When Homer becomes that green goo that eats everything?

Re: What's the significance of your EF name?

It's been my nickname since I was about 16 and decided to draw slightly disturbing images that demanded a persona to use as a shield.

And I have a wicked fetish on medieval armour/heraldic...

Ended up being a Clark Kent type of disguise, since it's actually a short anglicanized form of my name.
