Re: Moving to CH from USA - what should I buy ??

What a great thread, thank you!

I really like the idea of re-wiring lamps. We have quite a few nice ones and it would be great to bring them along.

Adding to this list :-)

Two things I would bring, canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices. I know that making it from scratch is the best way, but the canned is so close to real, and holiday meals are already overwhelming without having to worry about boiling a pumpkin. I know I can find it here but I just don't have the 1/2 day to head to Zurich just for that.

Also, before we left the US I bought several hand worked glass pendants that were made by a local craftsman. I use them to give as small hostess gifts, and will now also become Christmas presents. I should have brought real maple sugar candy too, that would have been a really great gift since maple can be hard to come by here. I am just saying this as a suggestion to people who are coming to stay for awhile, shop for some unique things ($20-$50) to give as small gifts.

You should buy everything that you think you may need for your household and probably clothing for the next season for the family (including ski gear).

If you are bringing appliances with you then you will need to buy a transformer. I bought mine here (http://www.220-electronics.com/volta...regulator.html) and they are still running after 7 years --still runs the kitchenaid and stereo.
