Well, my definition of what a "god" is is that which is omniscient and omnipotent. And when I consider it in the context of Physics and the four fundamental forces, it's difficult for me to really say that I do not believe in some kind of power(s) that is higher than myself going on behind the scenes, so to speak. Of course, I don't and wouldn't claim to fully understand it, but I do know that there exists something that governs and dictates reality which is far beyond my immediate perception and control.
A friend of mine is an astrophysicist and an atheist. We would often debate about religion. I once asked him: "If there is something that you would consider (and admit to be) both omniscient and omnipotent," what would it be? His answer was "a photon." It then occurred to me that Light also happens to be the most common symbol for "god" across all or most major religions. Just something I found rather interesting...
