Re: What is defined as "Insider Trading"?

Looks like your question was very topical. Spotted this in the WSJ this morning:
Long Jail Terms on Rise
Inside Trades Draw Lengthier Sentences, Analysis Finds

People convicted of insider trading are facing harsher sentences than in the past, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis.

It's the powers that be trying to convince Joe Public that they are really cracking down on white collar crime. They are trying to get Rajaratnam (of Galleon) for 15-20 years ... while it is well known that he was just a small fry. The real big money on Wall Street was always made from Insider Trading.

Re: What is defined as "Insider Trading"?

insider trading is in the news again .... for those who might have missed it, did you know that US Legislators are actually allowed to trade on non-public information that they gather in the course of their work?

i.e. you can subpoena Citibank and grill the CEO about what the bank is or is not doing, then pass a law in the afternoon that will reward the bank, and then log into your bank account and LEGALLY buy the same stock

BEFORE any of this is public information.. it makes no sense whatsoever, but thats how it is for now.
