English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

My girlfriend bough an HP laptop in UK. It has some problems to start. The laptop never starts "immediately", sometimes it takes 5 minutes sometimes even much more...
When she was in UK she called the assistance there, the problem seemed to be solved but now actually the old issue is back, better than before but still there.
The HP assistance on the phone in Switzerland is only in German/French/Italian. Any idea if there is any "HP shop" in Zurich? Or can I just go to any big computer shop as the one in Bahnofplatz and get the support for free considering that the laptop is still under warranty?

Re: English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

When we first moved I had problems with my UK purchased desktop and rang the HP assistance place here in CH up. Asked for someone to speak English and they found someone but it took a few hours for them to ring back. So there was someone there who could speak English but that was 5 years ago.

When you phoned the UK HP assist you were lucky to speak to someone who could speak English.
ECB is correct. May take some time but they will normally get you someone to help.

Looks like the assistance for the German part of Switzerland is managed by Germany, the French part from France, the Italian from Italy... So virtually impossible to get support in English if you are physicall in Switzerland.
OK, you can get spport from UK but if you have then to send the laptop to repair... you have to contact the Swiss assistance anyhow.

That wasn't my experience .. in fact I did not at first think of asking for someone who spoke English, and as I speak French, asked for a French speaker. As it turned out during the conversation, my computer French is non existant, so they said we will ring you back with someone who can speak english. They did, a few hours later, someone from the Zurich office (I think) anyway - someone who was a native German speaker.

I would be amazed if no one on their helpdesk could at least attempt a converstion in English.

If you go onto the hp support site you will get help online in English (Interact online with HP).

Re: English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

I tried all possible options and if you are physically in the German part of Switzerland only the assistance in German can repair your laptop.
In English, italian, french, you get assistance but just until the point to run diagnostic tests. If some hardware needs to be repaired, only the German assistance can do it for logistics issues.

I do not believe it will be hardware that needs fixing, you probably have too many programmes starting (unknowingly) which slows down the start up. If you go to the on-line assistance, they will talk you through how to do it.
I am no expert but the online assistant will be able to tell you exactly what the issue is.
You can also look up using 'msconfig' on line as that will show you all the programmes that are starting up and you can stop most of them probably. you will also find on-line which ones are really needed and should not be closed down.

Re: English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

I had 2 cases open, one in UK and one in CH. I run all the diagnostics and all tests are fine (passed). There NO additional programs installed on the laptop. No heavy files, nothing at all. The problem is there since few weeks after I bought the laptop.
The Swiss assistance in Italian told me that if all the tests will be passed (and they are) most probably it is an hardware issue. So I am back with the issue to find the way to get the laptopt physically checked. The only possibility is to call the assistance with the support of a German speaking colleague.

I would recommend the on line assistance, they will chat to you on line, and you can give them access to your laptop remotely and they will tell you exactly (in English) what the problem is.

Re: English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

You are right in so far as my experience went .. they ran diagnostic tests etc remotely and eventually said, we'll have to send someone out. Of course this person was from the German speaking repair part of HP-CH, and at the time I had done something like 2 months of weekly German lessons (learning from scratch) but it was fine. They don't bite. He had a few words of English (and quite a lot of computer speak English) and 2 hours later, my computer was back up and working.

He filled in a report, which had details of what was exactly wrong, so you could always get that translated by a friend if you are still stuck.

Maybe just try the German support at home? You may be surprised how easy it is. Sooner or later you will have to bite the bullet and get to grips with people only being able to offer services in German - but usually pigeon English (often very accomplished English) and gestures can compensate for much.

Actually HP has it's helpdesk center for laptops in Poland. Sometimes the call can be re-directed to Germany but this is very rare situation.

Re: English speaking assistance for HP laptops in Zurich?

Thank you for all the replies. I would like to clarify that I run all the diagnostics by myself based on the assistance from the Swiss HP assistance in Italian (in reality located in Milan). In total it took me 10 hours and the laptop passed ALL tests. So the question was not about the remote diagnostics. After several calls, I can confirm that if you do not speak german you cannot ask HP to come to take your laptop for some "physical check". That's fine, I just expected HP assistance in English to forward the case to the Swiss-German assistance, asking to contact you and come to pick-up the laptop. This is not possible, you have to contact the Swiss assistance and explain again all issues, results of tests from scratch. Just a waste of time, nothing else.
