oriental rug cleaners in zurich area

I think the time has come to finally get my oriental rugs cleaned, especially after my 5 year old has just thrown milk all over one. Where though can I find a place that does rug cleaning? The web is coming up with more info on buying. I live outside of Zurich, closer to the airport in a rural village. Any suggestions please?

Milk is nasty stuff and you need to get it out pronto. There used to be a place on Schaffhauserstrasse where I had my carpets cleaned: the guys were Persian and immediately told me the village where my carpets were made, over 90 years ago - and they were right! I trust them entirely BUT they've moved and for the life of me can't remember their name. I think they're in the Wipkingen area.

There's a typically upmarket place on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich: I'm sure they could deal with the cleaning too. I recommend you deal with that milk asap or your carpet's going to stink forever.

If it's an old carpet you must be careful not to scrub the stain, as it's likely to be dyed with vegetable matter (hence the always present slightly decaying smell they have - a sign of a valuable carpet) and you'll scrub the colour out. Place a lightly dampend cloth over the mark and a dry towel on top, to wick the moisture out. Carpets hate moisture. But have it attended to as soon as you can.

Re: oriental rug cleaners in zurich area

This firm cleaned my silk rug after one of my dogs had a very bad case of the tummy rumbles all over it ... came out looking as good as new.

(And when another dog ate the fringe, they did an excellent restoration job... )

A bit of a trek for you - but if you can't find someone closer you might give them a call.

Thank you both for your replies. I definitely need to get all my rugs cleaned as they were in storage for a while as well as accident issues such as milk and other unmentionables to oriental rugs.

Re: oriental rug cleaners in zurich area

Where can I find carpet shampoo? or rather what is it called? I want to give a shot at my carpet before giving it to cleaners as it is not a very expensive one. Also I got my couch from interio, with a nice weaved pattern and we had a few accidents with my 3 year old's stomach flu. Where do you suggest I find the cleaners for this? And how much will this cost? Or is it possible to do it myself with some special cleaning agents?
We have lot of visitors this summer and want to try and clean it before that.
Bindu who still has to look at the picture on the cleaning product to understand their purpose

Try Terlinden.

Here is the specific page about carpets.
http://www.terlinden.ch/de/hausliefe...e/teppiche.php

We had ours picked up by Terlinden and cleaned before we moved overseas, as recommended by the moving company before the carpets went in the container. Terlinden did a brilliant job. All of our carpets were wools and silks. They even got the fringe really clean which is rather difficult.

Just a word of caution, even with professional cleaning some stains will not disappear completely but it is helpful if you can tell them what the source of the stain was (if you know).

Wool carpets are really durable and can be cleaned many times and still looks as good as new.

Hello Bindu,

You might want to try this company. They are the company who ended up cleaning our carpets and then became good family friends as well. Asi did a fantastic job on cleaning and repairing the fringe on one Indian rug.
