My 6 y.o. went to bed with tears tonight. While he was experimenting with soda, dish-washing liquid and vinegar his lab glass beaker slipped out of his hands and broke in pieces on bathroom floor.

Where in Zurich I can find one? My son loves "experimenting", we have chemistry set with safety goggles, test tubes etc. and now such a disaster, beaker broke.

Can someone help to an aspiring scientist? Please?

unfortunately I don't know any physical stores that sell lab stuff, but it should be easily found online, an example:

or I would just go to ETH and find a lab and ask if they perhaps have some stuff they no longer need! as you see the're called erlenmeyer in german

I was thinking of companies like Sigma-Aldrich *, but I am unsure if they can sell directly to the general public. In any case, if you call their Technical Service, they might be able to forward you to a dealer who can resell. They also used to have a great selection of Science books.

It is really cool your soon likes science - but please make sure he wears google when doing the experiment.

But very good advice, I suggest a little lab coat and a box of latex gloves as well. It's never too early to adopt safe lab practices.

If you go for a little lab coat, make sure it is pure cotton and has click buttons, so you can pull it away faster.

Aw, sorry I can't help, though I grew up cooking and eating from labware, I get mine back home ...It's a fraction of cost here.

I think it's cca 1.50fr back home, but labs buy in bulk anyways, and without the trader margin. I picked up stuff for family in regular store rather than order online, I hate glass arriving broken. Mom had to close a couple of labs under her lead, we had nothing else in the kitchen and bassement at some point than labware. Fun. Not mentioning the weird surgical instruments that gradually gravitated into our silverware kitchen drawers, onions are so easily cut with a scalpel and pulling things from hot oil with forceps pushes for culinary precision, heh.

But as you say, here, 6fr is super nice.

I "borrowed" a hot stirrer - and its magnetic flies - from the lab. Best thing ever... Best custard and hollandaise I ever made. Cooking is much easier and fun with labware....

6CHF is a super nice price, even if you have to put taxes on top. This new stuff looks so much cooler than when I worked in the lab... It used to a much more industrial feel, I think.

Beakers (and labware in general) have to be fairly resistant (chemicals, shock and heat). Most glass labware is actually pirex or an equivalent grade of glass.

You should serve apero from petri dishes ...
