Where to buy inexpensive Christmas lights (Basel)?

Hi, we have a fairly large house and will only be here for 2 more Christmas holidays so I don't want to spend a fortune on outdoor lights that I can't take back with me. Happy to cross the border to France or Germany. Any ideas?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

I bought my lamps in Lidl 3 winters ago in Germany. They were quite cheap, and are still working in perfect shape. Maybe you can even take a look in Lidl here in Switzerland?

Re: Where to buy inexpensive Christmas lights (Basel)?

I bought some from Coop (one of the larger branches) that were really inexpensive. I could have taken a trip up to Germany to hunt for some that were perhaps a few francs cheaper but, to be honest, it didn't seem worth it.

Re: Where to buy inexpensive Christmas lights (Basel)?

What about having them imported from US!? At least this is my plan, led cable lights are small enough to fit in a suitcase. I'm gonna to do the hardware store OBI, can tell you later if they have any cheaper stuff.

Re: Where to buy inexpensive Christmas lights (Basel)?

The US uses 120v power so the lights won't work here unfortunately. Rewiring and changing the bulbs would cost way more than the lights themselves.

Bought ours from Ikea ... 16 years ago! Very very cheap (£1.99). Still going strong and have only had to use one of the 2 replacement bulbs provided

Right, didn't think of that. You are right, even if one has a wattage converter, like i do, its still too much of an effort. as you can't continually use the converter for some reason.

ow well, guess Ikea it is. I need to get cheap lamps anyway...

Re: Where to buy inexpensive Christmas lights (Basel)?

I know I'm going to sound like a moron, but here goes..
Every christmas, I think it might be a good idea for us to put some outdoor lights, but I keep wondering, how do you plug them in?Unless you leave a window open? Can anyone answer this probably very foolish question. FYI; I'm not that old, but when I was little, we stuck firmly to putting lights around our christmas trees

Exactly the sort of question I would be asking ... if I hadn't spotted our outdoor plug socket. Infact, we have several hidden around the garden. Not sure that will help you though because you presumeably would have noticed if you had any ...

Based on your recommendation, I ordered three garlands with lights built in.
The end result is fantastic.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Running 2 sets in series is the easy fix, done it with fans on US kit too.

there are sometimes flat cables which you can pass through a window/door while still being able to close it.
