| | Xmas tree prices?
Hey guys,
I searched for a relevant post but couldnt seem to find anything.
Im looking to buy my first ever christmas tree (real of course) in switzerland this weekend and was just wondering about prices.
I've seen some outside Mirgo's but there were no prices. Just wondered if any of you knew how much on average it will cost to buy a real tree? Nothing too big, just medium/average size, say 5"5ish?
I live in basel incase that might make a difference :P
thanks!! |

There are two things to look out for, the species of tree and the cost per meter.
Usually there is a price list hanging up, but you are a bit too early!
Every year IKEA sell nice Christmas trees for a good price in their car park, but I cannot find info on their website.

thanks!! | | | | | Check at the usual "hardware store" type places, I think they usually have the better prices.
My m-i-l usually takes us to Obi to get our tree, they generally have colored strips attached near the top - the colors are coded to the price.
A tree that size is probably going to run upwards of 70chf... our "little" (to me) tabletop trees (in the 3-foot range) usually cost something around 40chf I think. (The artificial ones that are above 5ft tend to run over 100chf) Meanwhile, the sale flyer for Obi is saying they have a sale on trees until the 11th, starting from 25chf.
We also go to Hornbach in Weil am Rhine for some hardware / home type stuff, their sale on trees looks to start about 20€ (with ones around the size you mention looking to start around 29€).

I paid 34.99 CHF yesterday for a Nordmann-Tanne at Hornbach. The price was 34.99 for 170-220 cm trees and 20-something for shorter trees.

oh okay then, thats perfect thanks!
If we had a car, we would adventure out or maybe even go to german/france to get a cheaper one, but as we only have public transport, or push bikes we have to get it local
60chf dosent sound that bad, i was a little bit worried it was going to be more like 200chf being switzerland!
i personally would prefer an artificial one...less mess and you can keep using it, so just one price up front then lasts for years. But i've been told by the boyfriend it HAS to be real so sadly its more effort for me!
As sad as it is, im actually getting quite excited about christmas! first time in years hence why im getting the tree so early :P

So familiar. Sooooooo familiar. (I prefer artificial as well because they are generally light enough that I can put it up and take it down solo... hubby refuses to even consider one unless we take it down the week before Christmas and set up a "real" one in it's place. )
A word of caution though about getting a tree this early - it really is quite dry here, hopefully some folks have good (GREAT) tips about keeping trees from drying out. I've heard that if you put corn syrup or sugar in the water, it should help "feed" the tree, I've never tried it myself though.

Jumbo in Allschwil have trees of different sizes with varying prices. The largest real tree they do is 75 francs and is more than big enough (IMO)

Hi All,
I have a small question on the X-mas tree. If we take it by public transport, do we have to buy a ticket for it? If yes, then should it be a full prise ticket or 1/2?
Thanks!

Thanks! | | | | | When I took my (fake though) tree in the bus, the driver didn't say anything. I just made myself small and put it in the baggage area...

You might also consider a growing Xmas tree - some come ready decorated. Although smaller it will last better and not drop needles through the Xmas time. You can always then try to keep it outside for next year, plant out in garden or put in a tub on the balcony.
