actually, the largest denomination is a £100,000,000 bank note. there are 40 of these. there are also £1,000,000 bank notes.
Uh -- yep. To be clear, the largest denomination banknote in circulation that's of any use if you want to buy something in a shop in certain parts of the UK, but not all, is £100.

Actually I do not need a museum for the big bills I remember that just before we moved to CH, just a few years back, our rent back in Romania was 8,000,000...those were the days...even though it was worth 200 euros
And here I am walking around with 20rp coins

Anyone remember the 500 billion (yes, 5 followed by 11 zeros) dinar banknote from Yugoslavia in 1993? It was sufficient to buy a small meal.

It's not surprising that guy on the banknote looks so miserable.

But back on topic -- yeah, it's a good thing the Swiss economy and the CHF are relatively stable. Although I did enjoy the brief moment of CHF 1 = € 1 last year.

There still are. I have a couple of them right now. Yours for CHF 1100
a couple of 1000CHF notes for 1100? Not a bad deal.

On December 19, 2011...one of the happiest days of my life. We moved away from the church...no 6am bells anymore

Enjoyed it...nice thoughts...but nicer attitude

I would rather be woken at 6am with church bells (then roll over) than the 20 or so planes coming in over Zurichsee...

It still exists - big mauve-coloured thing. I had a couple in December when I needed to pay a delivery man in cash.

I remember being very shocked when I first arrived here from France though - I had to move 3,000 CHF from my own bank to the one over the road for the deposit on a flat, and the bank didn't want to do a transfer. I was given three 1,000 CHF notes and felt very vulnerable walking across Place Pury in Neuchâtel with them in my pocket !
When we bought our car last year, I paid the downpayment in cash, 18 of them . Never before had I looked upon each and every Bernese with such fear and suspicion as I did that afternoon.
