Amazon.de offer now a collection address

Folks, just got wind of this, this arvo -

Amazon.de now offer a collection address in Germany when you place an order - so for all those things that are near impossible to ship to CH, and if you are close to the border, you can get it shipped to an address in DE, pick it up and head back.

if I am not mistaken, you can bring goods to the value of CHF300 across the border without needing to declare it.

No charge for this service apparently......I have yet to try it, but will do for my next Amazon.de order that is over CHF62.50 or cannot be shipped to CH.

Hope that this helps.

Re: Amazon.de offer now a collection address

Here's the link explaining the process (in German):
http://www.amazon.de/gp/help/custome...deId=200787040

I checked the stations near Basel, and it seems the pick-up stations in Germany are alot of "Totto-Lotto" places, what's that, some kind of small Kiosks? Has anyone tried using this service? It's apparently free. But is it safe to have it delivered to some small Kiosk? Is there some kind of "proof of delivery"?

Re: Amazon.de offer now a collection address

Sounds like our PickPost, which I have used many a time, the bar code is scanned and the system status is updated immediately at the local Bahnhof or other designated places.

DHL packstation
I tried & DHL told me I cannot use this service if I have a Swiss home address; I must register with a German address (maybe EU address is also OK - I did not check)

Yea, I tried also to register with DHL and it only allowed German addresses. However, Amazon.de's "Abholstation" is something different, and apparently anyone can use it, just need to show a valid picture ID when picking it up, and it's also apparently free (I guess Amazon pays the abholstations?).

Actually they are talking about Hermes packstations not an Amazon in-house service.
Hermes are an alternative postal service to DHL in Germany & they offer this service that you can collect from a Hermes packstation without any extra charge. Whoever pays for the delivery (e.g. free delivery then Amazon pay) also pays for the inclusive Hermes packstation service. So far as I know Hermes delivery prices are less than DHL; I have used this service in the past (but not from Amazon) & it works well for me.

Amazon offers two options. DHL Packet stations is one, and "Abholstations" is another. The Hermes paketstations are included in the Abholstation choices, but not all Abholstations are exclusively Hermes, they can be other places, like "Totto-Lotto" places. Log in to your Amazon account and proceed like you are going to order something, and then see your options. Or see my options that I attached screenshots of.

Hi,

What would you recommend if I wish to receive goods from other companies and not just Amazon?

Looking at this thread I see two options DHL and Hermes however I get the impression that DHL requires a German address whereas Hermes does not.

about "I get the impression that DHL requires a German address whereas Hermes does not. " - correct; I assume you mean that to register with DHL you need your own German address but not so for Hermes

Isn't Hermes just a carrier?

Re: Amazon.de offer now a collection address

Slightly off-topic, but:

Have you all noticed already that Amazon began shipping many items to Swiss addresses a few weeks before Christmas at, finally, reasonable cost of shipping?

They seem to have just started actively advertising it.

I have yet to try this, but they seem to bill the net amount (i.e. without the German VAT of 19%); all customs handling will then be made by the Swiss postal service (with the usual charges).

I'm not sure if Documents Hopelessly Lost go down to Falklands - they certainly didn't in '82 ......... although Hermes did.
