Mail Order to DE to avoid outrageous customs/handling fees

Hi,

Looking at getting a couple of things for idevices that I imagine ship from China. Both items are very cheap, so I should not have to pay anything, but going on past experiences people have shared on the forum that is not guaranteed.

http://www.espow.com/wholesale-iphon...ger-green.html
= less than 6 EUR, free shipping (?)

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/compact...-tablets-70974
= c. 6 EUR, free shipping (?)

So do small things like the items I'm looking ta get through ok, or should I get delivered to DE or FR?

Thanks for any advice (and yes I did read previous threads, but for generally people are talkign about items worth a lot more than 6 EUR).

Total value, including postage and packing < 50CHF = no duty.

Thanks for the reply. Really would be easier to cimply have delivered to Zurich region.

But what about customs deciding* that the package should be inspected? Then there'd be a fee for inspection even if no duty is due?

* now do customs decide if something should be inspected? Better check which carriers the shops use, IIRC UPS and DHL are 'evil' because they systematically add fees.

Re: Mail Order to DE to avoid outrageous customs/handling fees

I got small orders from dealextreme and i didnt have to pay any customs.
Total value under the 50CHF
My only complain with dealextreme is that I had to wait always more than 6 weeks before my items got delivered.
Even one time it took almost 3 months to arrive ...

They inspect packages randomly, but there is no fee for this. You can order whatever you want from DX and other Chinese/HK stores.

Is there a way to set up a post office box in DE or FR to have post sent there?

There's a great thread on this very question that I came across this morning. Just found it again: A legal solution to avoid customs charges ( DE, FR, IT, AT delivery addresses )

Basically, you have to pay for a mailbox in DE unless you are able somehow to sign up for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packstation. I used a service in Jestetten, worked as advertised. There are quite a few of them around along various border points.

As Grumpy's thread states towards the end, for FR (and IT) you can just get delivered to a post office (for free IIRC).
