Re: Buy sewing machine
[QUOTE=bossybaby;3279132]Meloncollie, on the single-voltage issue...Years ago I brought my US-only Elna Grasshopper to Europe. I bought an (then expensive) transformer for it, on which it runs perfectly.
The only suggestion I would make is to get some good advice on the transformer, specific to that sewing machine. When we moved here, I brought my Bernina with me (rather basic model, less than 10 years old at that point). We bought a good quality transformer for it and I had no problems with it for about another 7 years. Then the motor burned out. I took it to that wonderful sewing machine repair place in Oerlikon and they gave me the sad news that the machine was more expensive to replace than to repair. I wish I could remember if they felt that the transformer had contributed to the motor burning out but unfortunately, I can’t. It might be a good idea to get some advice from a place like that. I ended up buying a wonderful used mechanical Bernina from the 70s which works wonderfully for a basic sewer like me.
