Robot automatic Lawn Mower: which one?

Hi
I am looking to buy an automatic lawnmower, those which go automatically each day to cut the grass 1-3 mm at a time, using some perimeter sensors (markers around the lawn).

Does anyone here have experience and know which model is good. I do mean from CH or DE only, not from other markets (say UK or US) because we cannot buy those here.
My budget is say under 2kchf? Is that realistic?

Thanks.

Apparently, if you have children and/or pets, you'll always have grass mulch being trampled into the house.

Or go for the one that runs on grass, produces wool and works on Sundays as well

Is your lawn the size of a football field? I know a number of homes who have these robot mowers. I think the grass doesn't look nearly as nice as mine.

Be aware, according to one of our neighbors, it is not the upfront costs that will be of issue, it is the regular changing of the blades that adds up.

I use a hand mower (30 years old) and cut regularly, without the grass collection box. The short clippings, left on the grass, make a great high-nitrogen feed for the lawn which is free too.

I would say that that was a positive feature of the robot mowers and not a negative one.

Agreed - and I realise that this is one of the selling points - but I was passing on the comments of someone I know who has one .... and children.

Before the fine clippings have chance to return to the earth, they can be found on her living room floor, courtesy of her children who love running in and out bare-footed.

Re: Robot automatic Lawn Mower: which one?

we had the yellow Robomow from Friendly Robotics back in the states, unfortunately, it didn't survive the move over to Germany back in 2009, as here the lawns are just the right size for it.

I loved it. Never had to change a blade. Didn't really have the grass issue, we prefer to mulch the grass anyways as it is better for the lawn so that is always a problem for us . Perhaps, a Swiss person might mind? My cleanliness standards could be a bit lower...

We had it in operation from 2004 - 2009, and at the time we found it on clearance for a mere $400 - it was certainly a bargain at that price! If we would have lived on a busy street, it would have become a traffic problem, though, as people were always stopping in their cars to watch it do its work for several minutes! But I guess they aren't nearly the showstoppers they used to be as they are now quite common.

Next time we have 2k CHF and don't know what else to do with it, I would definitely get a new one! But one of the smaller models... the Robomow ones seem to be bulkier. Oh, and ours couldn't mow in a pattern, it just went randomly around, which seems to bug some people. Maybe the newer or more expensive models mow row by row?

Re: Robot automatic Lawn Mower: which one?

My local Landi re-seeded an area between the street and car park, so they could permanently demonstrate their offering - which appears to be similar to others around (not as big as some), but retails at less than 1500 chufs.
It does seem to require a perimeter cable laying down - which might be a problem for anything other than a regular piece of lawn.
