I would suggest wait for the letter. Usually the letter will have the contact details of the person processing your case. Once you have that you can try and approach this person directly.

Else just pay it when it arrives.

Unfortunately, people who are thieves use the same excuse.

The best thing you can do is continue to be honest. Get your story absolutely straight, so that you can tell it the same way each time. If you tell the story differently each time you're asked, then that will be taken as evidence of guilt.

You can appeal to character witnesses. If you can find people of "good-standing" in the community who are prepared to speak on your behalf, to explain that you are not dishonest, that you just were forgetful and you had no intention to not pay.

Try not to use the word "mistake". That sounds like an excuse rather than a reason.

Your husband has a duty to provide you if. If he fails in that duty, then he's the one at fault. If his anger ends up in violence, then please be aware that such things are illegal in this country and you can get help.

What Olygirl says is right.

i am not a thief . i never did any wrong things any where. i am here from 2006. before that i was in germany for 4 years, if i did any wrong things here the govt did not give me C-permit in 5 years .

I think they have to wait for a Strafantrag ( Criminal Complaint ) to be filed by the "victim" aka store and then proceed for questioning you as the alleged perpetrator for possible prosectuion. Normally, it ( the complaint ) has be filed within 3 months from the date mentioned on your CHF100 receipt ( Umtriebsentschädigung ) for offenses involving less than CHF300.

Let me be absolutely clear about this.

I don't think you are a thief.
I was not suggesting that you are a thief.

Now, read my post carefully again, and see if anything I said is of any help.

THEN do what Swisspea says!

Re: forgot to pay in market

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don't have better advice than the other existing replies here but if it makes you feel any better, it actually happened to me 3 times, all of which were during distressing moments with my kids ! Therefore, I fully empathize you from a mum's point of view.

-1st time : my little daughter was so attracted by all shining chocolate packs during x'mas time. She put a box of chocolate underneath the stroller without telling me/ me noticing it. Since I didn't purchase anything at the end, i only found it out AFTER leaving coop ! Luckily the alarm didn't ring ! Of course I returned it to the shop but it's enough to make me sweating....

-2nd time : i bought a birthday card for a friend together with whole bunch of other stuff. The kids were competing to hold the card on hand. They took turn to hold it (this ended up to be the only moment that i could unload the stuff on the belt and pack and pay etc) and I completely forgot after paying the grocery and left the supermarket !

-3rd time : i had a bag of fruit was hanging at the hook in front of trolley handle and i overlooked it completely...when my 2 kids kept fighting, pinching each other, 1 cried...during that you have to bag the stuff, pay, manage them....of course I forgot something more serious than noticing that little bag --- I left the credit card in the machine and the next customer pointed it out. While i got so pissed off with the kids behavior, forgetting the credit card, lecturing my kids...etc and at last I saw that little bag only after offloading everything in the car...

While these kind of forgetfulness could absolutely end up with serious consequences, i think it would be fully empathized and understood by mums encountering similar situation before.

Hope your situation could be resolved very soon.

Another reason this won't just go away if she just pays it is if she has to apply for an extract from the Strafregister if she's moving apartment, for example, it will show up on there. Her hubby will find out one way or another if it goes on a record.

I was thinking the same MacGregor's daughter.

Is there a woman who lives in Tuhina's area who speaks good German and who could meet up with her- go to see the Manager at the shop or the Police station, to try and deal with the situation. Please?

Telling her to pay asap when letter comes may well be good advice, but please bear in mind that Tuhina may not be financially independent/have access to funds.

hi
i am new in this forum. recently i am in a very problem
lam a house wife. i have a 3.5year old baby. i am not working here. i am frm india. basically i am very poor family. my husband is working here. we have C-type permit. .
2weeks before. i went to migros. i brought lot of thinhs like milk bread, 2 cup, peanut,etc...
and also 1t-shirt(17.90chf) ,2halfpant (12.90chf)and 1 hair band (5chf), i neckles(6.90chf). for my little engel. i put all these staf in the sit of my baby `s stroiler. i was coming from the kinder krippe. my daughter was crying a lot she didn^T wanted to go there . i dont know why. she was crying a lot that day. then from the krippe they said . don`t worry this is normal. you can go everything will be ok. but i was unmind full that day and was thinking of my daughter.
and finally what happend I for got to pay for thoses staff which i brought for my daughter. when i was cross zhe counter some alarm rang. and one lady come to me. and told me come with us. i was so scared. that what happen. then they took that t shirt ,pant etc... which i put on the strooler, and forgot to pay. i told them. i am sorry but they didn`t listn to me. call police. and said pay for the staff. and 100chf ertra. i paid then and there. then i said that i am sorry i am not like that. i forgot to pay i was thinking about my daughter. but theysaid we can not do any thing now one month later a letter will come to yoz from staatsaanwahlscaft. i have no idea what is that. i asked them what i did sorry for that. but they said you have to pay penalty for that. i have no idea how much is that

now what i will do. i can not say this to my husband. he will be angry and wont give me money i know that. any advice what i will do now
thanx in advance
regards
I feel sorry for you, it could have happened to anyone. But in my opinion you should talk to your husband...you are a house wife and your daughter goes to kinder krippe. Someone must pay for that, isn't it? I guess it's your husband who does it, so he can't be such a bad guy. He'll be angry maybe, but he'll come around...If that happened to him and didn't tell you anything, how would you feel?

Re: forgot to pay in market

Hi OP,

You can call phone number 143 (The helping hand) and request an English speaking person to talk to if you want. A call costs 20rp/70rp from a public phone (according to their German website).

English link: http://zurich.angloinfo.com/afdetail.asp?Rec=5770

They're there 24 hours a day.

I see that she is in Wettingen, Kanton Aargau, not Zürich. Tuhina, which Migros was it?
