Online shopping sites for clothes (in English)

I know online shopping is a big topic here.. trying to find some websites that can deliver to Swizerland with no or minimal shipping charges.. being charged for shipping and customs can be quite costly..
preferably english speaking sites.. I only know of Next so far..

Thanks!

Re: Online shopping sites for clothes (in English)

Marks and Spencer delivers to Switzerland and their shipping charges are not too painful.

Just make sure you keep the cost of the ordered goods down or you get whacked for tax and spurious "administration costs"

For me Zalando.ch is the best. Not in English but its very easy to find what you need. No post costs. Return is free. Good luck!

Boden deliver here too, good quality too although they can be a bit pricey. Order when they have a sale on and even cheaper. Don't forgot to take the 20% Vat off, then this will more or less cover the cost of postage, Swiss vat and admin charges.

Hope you find something interesting

La Redoute.ch is also good. The site is in German but i managed to figure it out and order from it. Prices are pretty reasonable and you can return things via Kiosk which is cheaper than using the post office.

Zalando.ch is the preferred on-line shopping site for today's younger generation.

Would advise to be careful using M&S to ship to CH as they don't use CN22 forms when posting to CH. About 2 years ago, I ordered goods from M&S worth ~20GBP, they did not use a CN22 form and I got slapped with a swiss post admin fee of ~35 chuffs after they opened and inspected the goods. About 2 weeks ago I contacted M&S customer services to ask if they now use CN22 forms like other major retailers (Debenhams, Amazon, Next etc), they were clueless about this, so beware!

I can however recommend Next who shipped my last 2 orders to CH for free and all was rec'd within 3 working days.

I never get taxed by swiss posts if my uk orders below are below ~70 CHF. There are other threads with exact facts/figures about tax charges.

Re: Online shopping sites for clothes (in English)

I'm thinking about ordering from Next and all this VAT and delivery cost business is quite complicated...

I've seen that Next deliver to Switzerland for free using DHL and I'm trying to work out roughly how much I could expect to pay. From what I understood by reading the various discussions on this forum, can I assume that I will be paying

Value of goods as stated on site (+delivery, in this case 0) - UK VAT + Swiss VAT + DHL handling fee ?

Am I missing anything? And does the DHL handling fee vary depending on size/weight of parcel? If not, I guess it would make more sense to place one larger order, rather than a number of smaller orders (assuming that none would be under CHF62)

- I guess Next used the correct forms etc. then?

p.s. Sorry about all the questions, am new to Switzerland and its ways

Another thing to be wary of with M & S. They refuse to take the 20% UK vat off!

Macy's has partnered with a company to offer prices in CHF and relatively reasonable shipping rates...plus you can pay an extra 10 CHF or so to guarantee that there won't be any additional customs or tax.

Re: Online shopping sites for clothes (in English)

John Lewis seems to be ditching its international customers.

It used to be a good option, with a user-friendly website and no restrictions on international deliveries of clothing in a wide range of brands. But the website recently underwent a number of changes, including the introduction of an international delivery group, and a large proportion of the clothing (appears to be at least two thirds) is now no longer available for international delivery (i.e. marked as "international delivery not available"). Trying to order these items online does not work and neither does trying to order them by phone, as customer services claim that they cannot process the order and refer you back to the new site. They also claim that the international delivery policy has not changed.

e.g. Women's tops by Mango: of the 503 tops, none are now available for international delivery

Mens' jeans of 113 jeans, only 10 are now available for international delivery

Dresses by Phase Eight: of 147 dresses, only 12 are now available for international delivery (mostly reduced to clear or out of stock)

Mens' shirts: of 844 shirts, only 276 are now available for international delivery (0/146 by Thomas Pink, 0/37 by Ted Baker, 2/30 by Ralph Lauren, etc.)

Women's coats and jackets of 1335 coats/jackets, only 450 are now available for international delivery

Mens' suits: of 116 suits, only 54 are now available for international delivery (mostly cheaper brands, like John Lewis)

Ordering clothing is also made more difficult by the removal of brand-specific size guides. Phoning customer services will not necessarily help, as the size guides from the old site have apparently been deleted from their records. The new site is also said to have other problems.

When are you relaunching the John Lewis website?

John Lewis managing director says:

We’re trialing the new website at the moment, and that’s gone smoothly. We’re planning a relaunch for February. It’s a lot simpler process for the checkout. The big thing is the personalised experience, [the site will know] your previous journey.

I am also not happy with M and S refusal to take the VAT off. This is surely an illegal practice, as you can bet they dont pay the tax to the VATman for articles shipped to Switzerland.

Best solution would be a boycott, I guess.

I have had contact with their customer services dept on this. They just dig their heels in. They say they do not charge VAT on overseas sales, merely charge one price regardless. Basically, they are applying a 20% surcharge on overseas sales and are not inclined to stop doing it!

Re: Online shopping sites for clothes (in English)

I've got a little online clothes store. I ship within all of Switzerland via A Post (so you get the stuff in 2 days max after we dispatch them) and depending on weight, most parcels' shipping charges are less than 2 CHF (we also ship from within Switzerland so there are no customs charges for you). Since we've just opened and I like all of you guys, I'm offering free shipping to EF members for all orders shipped within Switzerland by means of the following coupon code: 5d58ca10f5 . Just type the code during checkout and redeem your free shipping!

There are only 10 free shipping coupons available so use them quickly before someone else does!

The shop is at: http://www.theorientexpress.ch

Oh, and our website is entirely in English!
