Nice gift for an older Swiss man?

Hi everyone:

A retired math professor has been helping me with a problem. He is really lovely and has gone to so much trouble, so I'd like to get him a nice gift.

He is Swiss, he probably wouldn't be impressed with chocolate (my usual thank-you gift). Also, he is wine connoisseur, so I don't even want to attempt choosing wine for him. Flowers don't last... Soap-on-a-rope is all that's left on my list of options. Just kidding.

Can anyone think of anything else I could try?

Thanks a lot for any help.

How about a gift card from a wine store?

Buy him a star

I once did a word too

Or give him a Dyson vacuum cleaner

Re: Nice gift for an older Swiss man?

Thanks lost_inbroad... Would that be considered OK by an older person--a gift where the value is clear?

A star is a FABULOUS idea, Caviarchips! I wonder if I can afford one? The word idea is great too. I'm very impressed with your ingenuity.

OK, I bite. What is with the vacuum cleaner?

TiMow, unfortunately, I don't come from a glamorous country. There are some good dishes, but I'm not sure if I trust my cooking skills.

It depends on the person, but since he likes wines, I think, that he'd appreciate it. Although, coming to think, he must have already a pretty good collection of wines already and I'm only assuming, that a he probably receives gift cards from wine stores pretty frequently. How about something from your own country...if you're British, a cheese basket, with British cheeses and crackers, which goes well with wines. If you're not British, then use your imagination....maybe a nice "thank you" dinner at a good restaurant.

There are DVDs you can buy of aerial flights over Switzerland.

Something like this?

That cheese basket is a good idea, lost_inbroad. I could be British for that.

Thats pretty good. All of my math teachers were boozers, so that makes for a high probability solution.
