Returning a letter to sender?

Hi all,

I tried searching for this but couldn't find anything, so hopefully you guys can help... I received a couple of official-looking letters in the post for a previous occupant of my apartment. In England I would cross out the address, write "No longer at this address - return to sender" and pop it back in the postbox. Is the same true here? Would "nicht mehr an dieser Adresse - Rückkehr Brief an den Absender" work?

Cheers

Mark

Re: Returning a letter to sender?

I would put a rubber band around them and drop them off at the local post office window informing them that that person has moved. Easy

We had that. We did as you said, wrote "please return to sender", and put them in a postbox.
A few months later, we talked to the previous tenants and asked about the letters. They received them without a problem.

Re: Returning a letter to sender?

The reactive version is to do as you (OP) suggest.

The pro-active version is the one suggested by JC.

Needless to say, I've only done the reactive one, because I never thought of the second option...

Re: Returning a letter to sender?

Third option:

Easiest option is to bin 'em .... better still, if you have a shredder ........

They're probably only bills (look for Billag on the envelope) - the addressee will thank you.

Just think of all the Brownie points you will get when you deliver them to the post office window...

And even more when you smile at them (they won't know what to do with themselves when you smile)

Bet the Billag collector wouldn't be happy though

Re: Returning a letter to sender?

Thanks for all the quick replies. I'll see how motivated I'm feeling on Saturday morning as to whether I fancy a trip to the post office...
