I'm very desperate! where the hell i can buy some electronic and electrical stuff such as : wires, flat cables, LED, transistors, boards, small electric motors, small gearboxes, ...
I know you can order it online, however the shipping price is epensive, or maybe there is an online shop in switzerland for selling this stuff, i donno.

Re: Where to buy electronic and electrical stuff???

Mhmmm acrually you know i've never seen a retail shop that sells all that stuff... in the UK we have Maplin etc, but here no idea. Realistically though, the amount of money you save buying online vs retail in Switzerland likely more than makes up for the delivery costs (and VAT should be excluded too), so just use the reputable UK/EU online shops.

www.distrelec.ch also have lots of stuff. For home electronics cabling, try www.kabelschweiz.ch, they're 5-10x (yes, times, not percent) cheaper than high street shops or even online ones.

Conrad have the advantage that you can buy cable by the meter (and they have a massive selection. But sometimes, peculiarily, the seem to be missing certain products. I ordered recently some installation cable - I wanted brown, black, grey, blue and green/yellow. From every cable type, there was one bloody colour missing )

But, the big disadvantage, is the painfully long delivery time . I placed an order last Tuesday - it arrived 7 days later, and this is normal. If you want a critical resistor before the weekend, you have to order on monday morning.

Distrelec is more like RS components in the UK. The huge advantage is that the stuff is on your doorstep the next day, even tiny orders. Disadvantage is that you can't buy cable by the metre, unlike Conrad. And their online catalogue is AWFUL to browse through, though it seems to have been updated recently.

brack.ch is also good for some stuff, they seem to expand their range quite frequently; I work very close to their HQ, so I can pick the stuff up the same day (and we get a discount from work)

The electrician I know here can order stuff from Otto Fischer, and usually the stuff arrives the same day, sometimes even late in the evening (they have their own courier service). Their catalogue is enormous, but you can't buy from them as a private person. Otherwise, you can buy everything from a connector to a power station (well, not quite, but you get my drift), so long as you know someone with an account there.

Re: Where to buy electronic and electrical stuff???

So, I guess nobody knows of any normal bricks and mortar shops that do these components then?

Looks like for the want of 2 1000uF 6.3v caps I'm going to have to buy a completely new gigabit switch.

Ordering online is not an option for me, unfortunately.

Re: Where to buy electronic and electrical stuff???

Ok, I should have asked first where I knew the answer would be.

A good friend of mine suggested http://www.pusterla.ch/ as a walk-in shop for descrete electronic components. I can't vouch for them myself, but I will visit them on Saturday, and it looks like my gigabit switch will live a bit longer

They are referenced in one of the links above. I`m no electronics buff but they do knock down converters for US appliances.
