ZH Trash/ Recycling Dump?

Where can I find the trash dump to throw away larger items myself? Did a forum search, but couldn't find it. Is this possible in Zurich? Thanks.

Re: ZH Trash/ Recycling Dump?

I dont think there is such a thing as a "Trash Dump" in CH?

Larger items (furniture?) .... you need to buy those stickers from the Gemeinde, Sfr2,50 each per 5kg weight, stick those on your items and leave out on trash bag collection day. Or you can buy the 110ltr bags and fill them with whatever junk. Or you can ask the Brökkihause if they want your junk? (pay them to fetch, or you deliver it)

Old electrical appliances can be returned to the shop.

Horgen's got one. Drive your car onto the weighbridge. Then dump the stuff. Weigh again and pay.

http://www.kvahorgen.ch/

There's one in Affoltern too: http://muldenschmid.ch/

Loads of others too.

I ask because I have been to one before in a village where you are allowed to throw your trash into its respective category/ recycling. However You have to live in that village to do that... Village is not in ZH...

The ones I quoted charge you.

The Affoltern one is private.

The Horgen one is run for the Horgen/Waedenswil area but charge you and burn the waste to generate electricity.

You should be able to find the other ones from here:

Oh that ..... you mean the recycling dump that each town has?
Big containers to take the glass/cans/metal/paper/cardboard?

Ja, it`s in your town/village - somewhere, just ask the Gemeinde, or neighbors.

I meant very large open bins where people drive their cars up to and toss away TVs, furniture, etc, for free... I saw lots of construction material being tossed out. I guess it gets dragged off somewhere to be disposed or burned.

Very much appreciated, was looking for a free one... I do not have tons to dispose...

My German is nonexistent. Is it stating you can buy trash bags from them to dispose there?

Now you may be talking about a "Mulder"?
A big (usually yellow) metal container?

People with a lot of stuff to trash hire a Mulder (builders, or people clearing out their cellars/attics, or doing renovations), which is brought and left for a certain time before being collected, weighed, and the bill sent. VERY expensive operation. And private, for the use of the person who hired it. Price depends on whether it`s "mixed" trash, or just wood, or just metal, etc.

You may not dump your stuff in it!
You may remove anything you are wanting

Those bags are for use in the Horgen area. You need the ones for Zurich (or the zurich stickers). I thought you were talking about large quantities of stuff.

Either way, you have to pay for it unless it's deemed re-cycleable in your own area in which case you should get it re-cycled there.

OK, I thought it was specific to that dump. Thanks.

No, I was talking about driving to an actual dump and throwing it away without a fee. I guess the dump moves those very large containers around. I was not referring to the containers that construction companies use where it's outside sitting outside of your building.

Re: ZH Trash/ Recycling Dump?

No way you'll find a "dump" for free. If it can be recycled, then that's usually free but if it's for disposal, then everywhere charges - it's a very good system, based on you pay for what you use.

Re: ZH Trash/ Recycling Dump?

In Zürich you will have to go to

Hagenholz

It's not free. Have a look at the documents coming from your Gemeinde. They send out the "Trash Calendar" every year and maybe they sent you a coupon for some reduction or exemption up to a certain weight.

Re: ZH Trash/ Recycling Dump?

Every resident of Zurich receives a trash recycling & disposal handbook (Entsorgungs-Kalendar in German) in their Postbox annually. I just received the 2013 edition last week.

Among other useful information this includes 4 coupons, each of which allows you to dispose of up to 100 kg of waste (the types of waste accepted are also defined) FOR FREE in either of the recycling centers Hagenholz or Werdhoelzli.

I have used this service myself a couple of times, loading up my car with misc bulky items that were too large/heavy to go in the regular trash bags and taking them to the Werdhoelzli center. The process is very easy and they didn't even bother to weigh my car or the stuff to be disposed. Just hand over one of those coupons and they are happy!
