Swiss army knives

A fellow expat said she heard it's possible to take a factory tour where Swiss army knives are made. She thinks one could even order a personalised engraving at the factory shop. Has nyone else heard of this before? Checking wenger.ch and victorinox.ch wasn't helpful.

Re: Swiss army knives

Victorinox does not do public tours. I've heard they do excellent engraving on knives.

Re: Swiss army knives

You do get a discount at the Victorinox shop (I believe it was 10%) and they have a lot of seconds.

You can find the knives in any souvenir shop including edelweisses in the train station also in any Dolmetsch shop around and MANOR. In Dolmetsch they have variety kind of knives and for sure they will give you an opinion which knives is better.

Re: Swiss army knives

Migros also sell Swiss army knives which cost less than most other shops. The only difference is that they are not boxed.

Victorinox took over Wenger in 2005 but they apparently run independently. Victorinox were the first to make the Swiss Army knife.

If you are looking for the slightly unusual Swiss Army knife, try this one.

I think that will be a little too large to fit into my handbag

I'm pretty sure it's in Canton Schwyz (Ibach?). A Swiss friend who used to work for Victorinox drove me there some years ago, and I was able to buy several nice "seconds" kitchen knives at a modest discount.

Re: Swiss army knives

Here is the history of Victorinox. They were established in Ibach.

Their factory is in Schwyz. Wenger is in Delemont.
