Dry Ice, where I can I buy it?

I need a small amount for a table setting display. I had a person I was going to buy it from, but they fell thru. Any help is appreciated. I can go anywhere near Zurich, Basel, or Zug.
Thanks

Also an idea of price and handling would help as well.

I used to get it from scientist friends. It was cool for halloween parties.

You can order it from here but I suspect you want a smaller quantity:

Interesting responses, but yes, a smaller quantity is needed.

Reads like you can buy 6kg from Pangas in pellet form:

Pickup here:

Re: Dry Ice, where I can I buy it?

I saw on a Youtube video that you can shoot a CO2 fire extinguisher into a pillow case and catch the dry ice in powder form. You can then press it together to tighten and compress it.

Of course far cheaper to buy a fire extinguisher than a pack of dry ice.

We get our dry ice from carbagas, maybe it helps ?

Years ago we got some for some school event. As far as I remember, we got it from the local pharmacy.

Best call ahead, they may have to order it in... probably easier for really small quantities..

To be fair, the prices from pangas look pretty good - we get it wholesale at Uni and still have to pay CHF 13 per kilo.

If you are making it yourself, depending on timing, I suspect it will have disappeared long before it makes it onto the table! (likewise pellets will disappear a lot quicker than slabs - so try to order the minimum quantity of slabs and you should be able to store it in an insulated container for a couple of days and still have enough for a pretty table setting).

I get mine from Carbagas (http://www.carbagas.ch/), but they're in Bern. Maybe they deliver...

Re: Dry Ice, where I can I buy it?

Also, don't forget that the sublimation rate of dry ice is about 5 kg every 24 hours (if kept in an ice chest), so depending on when/where/how you buy it, buying a large quantity might not be such a bad idea.

Seems a little messy with the fire extinguisher.

Agree, for small quantities, ask a pharmacy. They should be able to help you.

Re: Dry Ice, where I can I buy it?

When you order ice cream from Sprüngli they'll ship it with dry ice. You might want to check with them how much dry ice you'll get with one ice cream

Re: Dry Ice, where I can I buy it?

I just called Pangas in Schlieren. I can pick it up whenever I want, during open hours, and it costs 4.5 CHF per kilo, 3 kilo minimum, plus a 6 CHF charge for the container it comes in.

Thanks
