Solid wall won't allow easy picture hanging.. picture rail?

Hiya,

My son doesn't feel "settled" in the house and he said he'd feel better if I hang up some family photos (I was waiting til things were more settled, but decided to hang in a room we won't replaster, etc for a while). I tried to get some nails in the hallway wall and all my nails were destroyed!! Super solid wall. It's not going to be an easy one to work with. So, we thought installing a picture rail along the top would be the best solution for the long term.

Any tips on where to pick them up here? I'm just north of Zurich in AG.

Thanks!

You can drill and put in lag bolts...or if there is a plaster covering, you can use "ooks" which can be placed in either drywall or plaster... Cherrs

If you just want to hang a picture, go to the Baumarkt and ask for gehärtete Stahlnägel für beton, they look like this..

That'll be great to hang the picture rail!

We'd still like a rail as we're thinking this hallway will have regularly updated items (buying antique prints of our town and updated family pics). Any idea where to get one?

I know, I know, you said picture rail. But we use the 3M velcro picture stickies and they work perfectly - and when you want to move things around they peel off without damaging the paintwork.

I was recently told that STAS picture rails are available in Coop Bau & Hobby stores. I haven't yet gone looking myself.

They are great except if the wall is cover with a textured paper. It takes the paper off!!!

Use the drillbit for ceramic tiles and you should have no problem drilling without recourse to a hammer drill.

I've had really bad luck with command strips in teh past.. broke one of my favorite glasses. The wall is textured, so I don't trust anything sticky on it! lol

Or simply, mortar drill and nails (fine for pictures). Drill hole at downwards angle, insert nail.
