Embroidery Supplies in German Speaking Switzerland

Hello!

I really like to embroider, but I can't seem to find anything other than plain cotton Anchor or DMC threads in stores here in Switzerland. I can find all I'm looking for online, but I'd really prefer to buy it in a store. I'm looking for things such as:

- High quality linen
- Frames (scroll, stretcher bars, etc... (i.e. not cheap flimsy round hoops))
- Silk, wool, and metal threads
- High quality needles (i.e. not the cheap ones you can buy in Coop)
- Tambour supplies

I'm ok with going to stores any where in the area encompassed by Bern/Biel/Luzern/Zürich/Basel/Winterthur/Schaffhausen.

Thanks!

Hello, Kuh.

Not in Swiss German part, but have you checked out Yverdon, it has a good needlework store, I will add a link if I find it. They used to have a cross stitch club, meeting once a while regularly, check with them if they still do. The ladies there are helpful. I get most of my stuff abroad since there's more choice and quality and it's usually cheaper. But so far, Yverdon has been reliably good, they will also order for you.

eta - yup, here www.reineberthe.ch

Re: Embroidery Supplies in German Speaking Switzerland

This is perhaps not directly relevant fo you, but I thought I would suggest it anyway.

I always see traditional embroidery supplies (wooden tensionable hoops, hoop stands, DMC thread, embroidery floss) in Brockis, second hand shops , primarily the ones that are run by the " Frauenverein" ( women´s associations) of almost every village. Because embroidery as a household activity is not as popular as it once was, related items seem to always be in abundance.

I realize , from my experience as a machine embroiderer, that thread deteriorates with time, but I think it´s worth checking out. These shops are around , and thread-craft related items are usually well sorted out and in a easily found place in these shops.

Good luck in your search!

Re: Embroidery Supplies in German Speaking Switzerland

I don't do a lot of embroidery but I saw stuff at the Manor in Zurich near the HB and the Bernina store (also in Zurich) - both hold at least basic embroidery supplies. At Manor they have loads of wools as well.

In terms of brands, they're similar to what John Lewis in London has in their haberdashery department (although fewer things available)

Thank you Simplon!

I was able to check out Bestelzentrum Yesterday. They have a wide selection of both dmc and anchor threads, study hoops, and embroidery fabric. Thank you!
