Re: Hair-cut in Zurich

Ah, well... Since I don't live too far from the border, and have been equally dismayed at the horrendous prices for haircuts here - and because I have other reasons to periodically go - I've been getting my haircuts done across the border in Germany instead.

Price is at the low end by Swiss standards (18 Euros). Yes, I know: I should factor in the cost of getting there - but I cavalierly ignore that in my price comparison

Plus you get free coffee

Best of all, the hairdresser I wandered into (by chance and because it had a convenient location), *only* has young women working there, all of them blonde, and all very easy on the eyes...

Re: Hair-cut in Zurich

There is a good and fairly cheap Hairdresser at Seebacherplatz near the bus stop.
I heard he is as good as any expensive one!

They have a newish one (since Oct 2009) at Central. (round the back of the Starbucks).

The basic cut is 28chf (incl a coffee).
The girl who did my hair called Tanya was very sweet and spoke some English.
Unfortunately she used clippers on the sides as I forgot to ask for scissors first, but she used scissors for the top.

I went there yesterday for the first time and got an immediate walk in.
Or call 043 422 54 54 (Ask for Tanya to do your cut who speaks a little English if your German is not too hot).

I am only recommending this for guys. They do women's hair but I can't testify to how good they are with more technical styles, only on the value for money, freindliness and speed of service.
There was a place in Dublin called the Green Dolphin. Filled with barbers with a distinctly old Dublin, ex-army type flavour you went in, sat down, they took one look at you, cut your hair properly and you had a wee chat about rugby or something else. In fact if you didn't have a wee chat you ended up with some foul smelling stuff in your hair. There were rules, it was orderly and you never, ever looked out of place.

How is anybody with that kind of heritage supposed to know what the different effects of clippers and scissors are?

Re: General Hairdresser / Barber thread, Zurich region

Little surprise this weekend when I went to my usual place (Valentino at Escher-Wyssplatz). I knew that my regular hairdresser was on my vacation, so I got a replacement who did a nice job and, to top it all off, offered to epilatem my eyebrows. I agreed to do so, and my girlfriend is happy with the result, just surprised to find a hairdresser taking care of this kind of business.

I went to this salon today, and the hairdressers there do speak some English, and were efficient. I think for a basic men's cut, the price is reasonable and you get what you ask for. They offer you a coffee at the end, I didn't bother so can't comment on that.

My question is, are there any cheaper barber shops in Zurich or is it the fixed price here? Also, I used to enjoy a Turkish barber shop in Germany, which was very cheap, but they knew their job and my hair-style, so I would like to know if there are any available here. thanks!

Re: Hair-cut in Zurich

LIB gets his hair cut at this African barbershop on Militärstrasse. I don't remember what the place is called...but it's the first barbershop (on the right) coming from Stauffacherquai going to Langstrasse. The guy does an excellent job and it costs only 30chf.

ps: and they speak English there

Just a haircut please

This question may be answered elsewhere but I can't use the search function on my I-phone!

I'm a guy that needs a haircut in Zurich, a CHEAP haircut!

Any recomomendations? I got a quote today for CHF69 which seems madness to me . My local barber in Dubin charged me EUR12.

"Hair to Go" in Seefeld. It's quite new and funky. No website, but they're on facebook.

There's a walk in barbers at Albisriederplatz that does a good job for 25 CHF. Cheapest I have found.

Re: Just a haircut please

I would say 25-35 is a good price for a decent barber. I spent years trying to find someone who would give a decent cut; an old workmate of mine who's half Italian told me I had to find an Italian... I ignored him and suffered looking like a redneck German until I found: an old Italian guy. 35 bucks and I tip him 5 'cause he not only cuts it beautifully, but he manages to do it in such a way that it looks good for weeks and weeks as it grows out. Go Italian!

Re: Just a haircut please

There are a few men's places along Josefstrasse (between Langstrasse and the Trainstation) that do cheap haircuts.
