Why not take a picture with you of how you want your hair to look and just point at it...

Hair tends to be quite three-dimensional and pictures generally are missing one dimension.

Go to Gäupark shopping centre in Egerkingen (37 Km south of Basel) and ask for Ramona. Lovely, friendly lady who understands basic English and will style it however you wish.

Re: English speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber needed!

I'm in the same boat. I want a normal hair cut -- nothing stylish. I got it cut back in December and it was clearly too difficult for the person cutting my hair. She still cut different sections different lengths, despite the fact that I repeatedly said "conservative, conservative." My wife was also there -- so it was not the language barrier. I wish there was a bloody barber shop somewhere instead of all these damn stylists.

Try J7 on the neiderdorf. Tomi the main man there speaks English as is a great guy. It's near to wings bar. There is a spagehhti restaurant in the little square and it's above there (oppsite Claires accessories)

Re: English speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber needed!

There is a nice hairdresser round the corner from the first Star*ucks (on the Bellevue side) two wee blocks past the back of Star*ucks up on the right. I'll be going this week so I'll pass on the name.

They speak English and it costs 40 bucks. I have a regular Japanese girl, Mariko who is great.

They have a tendency to close whenever they want though, so it can be hit and miss.

Re: English speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber needed!

Thanks for the tips. I remember reading another thread about this way back when I first joined -- it seemed like everyone who posted spent around 80 CHF a pop back then. 30-40 is much more reasonable.

There is an Italian barber in Herzogenbuchsee,my husband (also English) goes to him all the time. Its on Bernstrasse opposite side to the National, naer the centre of town, you will see the Barbers Pole. Good Luck

Thank you so much. I do not know how to thank you. I had actually talked about going to the Ticino or even Italy (I have a GA) back in the fall. My barber back in the US was an Italian, who after at least 30-40 years in the US speaks broken English. This is exactly what I was looking for -- I had actually spent a lot of time searching on the internet.

Edit: Looks like a fun day trip...

Great thread.

Does anyone know the French equivalent for "2 on the sides and a 3 on top"?

Hi, Drove past the shop today, sorry to give you wrong info, but he does not have a Barbers pole, just a sign saying Hair Coiffeur.

Re: English speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber needed!

haha love this thread... I am totally in the same boat but luckily I go back to London every other weekend so get it done there. Bit too scared to get it done here... might end up with a Swiss Mullet often seen on Usgang.

Re: English speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber needed!

At the top of Charing Cross Road, and several other places in central London, you can get a decent Man's (with a capital "M") haircut for 6 quid. It is staffed by Polish workers who do a very good job in record time. Even with a tip it's good value. And they don't bore you with holiday questions.
