Re: How can I dispose of unwanted furniture?

Hi, I am going to be moving back to the states soon after staying here for 3.5 years. I am looking to give away some of my apartment stuff like sofa, bed, mattress, table-chairs, microwave, vacuum cleaner, rugs. If anyone is interested in these items let me know. As suggested in the thread, I will try to contact the local brockenhaus, if there is one around in Neuchatel.

Welcome to another Neuchatelois- what a shame your first post if to say good bye! What are the rugs like, I might be interested.

The Centre Social Protestant might be interested in the furniture.

Bonne chance Odile

You can also have a look at the site to see what is available for sale.

Re: How can I dispose of unwanted furniture?

A few posts about the weather, a couple about your experiences whilst living here, one or two about how dreadful Switzerland is, or how wonderful, a couple of restau recommendations for Neuch - you'll get to 10 very quickly, Happy posting.

Re: How can I dispose of unwanted furniture?

Just emptied the cellar, clothes were all taken by Caritas, so was all the "pretty rubbish" my wife was keeping. We had a few electronics too (tv, dvd player...) all still working, Caritas didn't want any of these (only the digital camera). We were told that we could drop off everything in an electronics shop (Fust), we went by and they took everything. So these are some solutions if you don't have time to EF or Ricardo things!

Re: How can I dispose of unwanted furniture?

Same in the UK, most charities will not take electrical goods as people has sued them for malfunction. Employing an electrician to check and guarantee electrical goods is just too expensive. I took a deep fat fryer to our local charity shop in the UK, and they said they couldn't take it. One of the volunteers at the shop asked if she could have it for her family - so good home found.

They won't take any stuff which is badly worn, does not carry a proper fire resistant label, or dirty. All clothes have to be in good state of repair, washed and ironed. Most shops have volunteers who will replace the odd button, or do minor repairs.

Hiob, the Salvation Army, Remar will take good stuff off your hands for free, but will charge you to dispose of anything else.
I've not seen a Salvation Army depot in Switzerland. Does it exist? Or another charity organization (that will come pick up usable goods to be sold in their thrift shops)?
