Re: barbecue grill [Where can I buy one?]

Ah now this a thread I like !

At the coop petrol station you can sometimes find portable charcoal barbecues ! Its a large tin foil with charcoal so you can have a barbecue without have to take your 20kg grill with. Cost around ~20fr.

Another tip : its sometimes difficult to get a barbecue started the solution : look around shops for a barbecue funnel : you place the charchoal inside it and light a piece of paper under it ... works really well !
Forget trying to light it with alcohol its dangerous !

Another thing to consider instead of getting an expensive gas grill you could go for a garden pizza oven !

Yes basically any Bua & Hobby / DIY place: Coop, Migros, Jumbo, OBI, Hornbach etc.. Also Fust Aldi etc.. worht shopping around as there are lots of offers on the moment.

Even through CS's Website they have offers.

And the favourite place to check: TOPPREISE

http://en.toppreise.ch/grp2_1533.html
I've tried all of the listed (including toppreise) and they don't have the Weber Performer in stock, the best offer was to order one in 10-14 days.

Ma-Shop has them but I doubt they are in stock.

I'm going to try to get one from the US on ebay I think

Did you try typing 'Weber Performer' into Google.ch with Switzerland Sites selected?

Get several sites including:

http://en.toppreise.ch/prod_88553.html

Edit: Also try Ebay.ch / de etc.. sometime companies advertise new stuff here.

So is the delivery faster from the US than getting one in stock here?

Azone & Hegli show stock of these.

Hegli are out of stock, Azone say they can deliver mid next week but I can't pick it up before then, might as well check back Keiser who are about 150chf cheaper.

US slower but I'd save about 300chf

Re: barbecue grill [Where can I buy one?]

I know someone who sells Gas BBQs, the business is based in Luzern. He speaks English.

The catalog can be found here

They also sell big garden screens, imagine a nice BBQ and watching the Euro 2008 beamed onto a screen in your garden. Now that's summer!

Can all be viewed and contacted:

Re: barbecue grill

Uncle Max, for someone who doesn't smoke you are keen to coat your food and lungs in an unhealthy dose of combustion emissions from both the charcoal and the lighterfluid generally used to start these contraptions.

clean, healthy gas cooking with a decent metal plate to hold heat and reduce fuel consumption; doesn't sound like such a bad idea from where i'm standing breathing in the aromas of tasty food and not incomplete charcoal combustion.

(i can for-see a cook-off may be required to settle this point.... grill tongs at 20 paces?)

Some people also swear Nespresso make the best coffee, also praising its ease of use.

They may even call themselves coffee-lovers...

See where I'm going with this?

Either way, we should have more BBQs Roll on the warmer afternoons and evenings.

Re: barbecue grill [Where can I buy one?]

I've found a company in the US that will send one for total 500chf including shipping in 5-7 days, that's a clear winner.

The shipping is 220chf so I'm asking them what they can do if I buy more than one, so if anybody fancies a Weber Performer for under 500chf let me know quick!

There have been *many* already this year

It's all ya need ca. CHF90
We're relocating in a couple of months, and our stuff will be packed up. My old Hibachi grill is about rusted in half, so I'd like to replace it. Is there good availabily for gas if I bought a grill in the states? I'm leaning more towards just a little charcoal one, like you posted. What about the availabilty of charcoal. At the grocery stores just like in Ohio? Thanks!

In Switzerland you can buy gas and charcoal.

They've recently got electricity in most of the homes too

Potatoe head, Do not buy a gas one to import, you will have to get all the fittings changed to match the propane tanks in Europe.

Re: barbecue grill [Where can I buy one?]

thanks rat. That was certianly something I had thought of, and some internet searching for little grills yeilded a lot of results for the camping variety, the kind that uses canisters of 'white gas'. So I began to wonder about the availabity of charcoal. Sure, they'd have it, but if its a gas station item, then that's the route I'll go.

Do you guys ever go camping?

They don't stock Weber unfortunately, and I want a charcoal grill.

The best Gas grill I have seen is the Electrolux one although it is a little pricey at 8000chf.
Jeez, you could buy a car for that. and fill the underhood with meat and drive around.

Re: barbecue grill [Where can I buy one?]

Would anybody be able to tell me where one can buy a propane tank for a gas grill (and have it refilled) in Geneva - I'm used to being able to get a tank at almost any grocery store or hardware store in the US - but can't remeber anyplace to buy one here in Geneva.

Re: barbecue grill

Lighterfluid's for glue-sniffers
Mega hot charcoal is as good as any other fuel
It's a real BBQ, not some clinical (gas) outdoor kitchen machine
"Clean ...healthy..." Hmm, I prefer it dirty...

Didn't have any complaints with my anchovies and lamb the other night
