How to avoid fruit flies??? Not sure whether this thread should be here, or under complaints, but does anybody know how to avoid getting 100 fruit flies in their apartment?? I swear they are just as bad as the dust here (only the dust is easier to catch :D) Last summer I was very surprised at how they just showed up overnight - something I'd like to avoid this year. I'm a neat freak, so our apartment is very clean. The only food that we keep out on the counter is the fruit, which I insist on having but will toss out as soon as it starts to look bad. Our garbage is also kept closed under the sink so I don't I can do anything else with that. Does anybody else have this problem, or better yet, does anybody have an answer to this? |
Re: How to avoid fruit flies??? Yes i have the same problem. I do not think there is alot you can do about keeping them out of your flat:msnmad:. I now keep all my fruit in plastic containers so the fruit flies cannot get to the fruit, and i place a deep glass of fruity red wine in the kitchen, the flies are attracted to the wine, and once in the glass drown. This seems to help hope it will help for you too. |
Re: How to avoid fruit flies??? Hmmm glass of wine eh? I will have to give that a try. Thanks!! |

Re: How to avoid fruit flies??? Here is a "how to get rid of" fruit fly site - vinegar seems a nice bio friendly solution. http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/pe...of-fruit-flies |
Re: How to avoid fruit flies??? I just put a towel over my fruits. Maybe I'm lucky that they haven't come here. |
Re: How to avoid fruit flies??? Hi all, I found some of my houseplants had small fruit flies, perhaps from the soil(?). I use yellow sticky cardboard markers which attract and catch them, for example the Gelb-sticker sticks from Neudorff - available at Obi. It does not have an insecticide and so is fine to use in the house. Barbra. |

I don't have fruit flies at the moment, but I did try putting a glass of wine out on the counter. Rather than getting rid of the flies, I managed to completely get rid of the contents of the wineglass. Thanks for the tip :) Seriously though, useful to know come the summer. I never had a problem with fruit flies before I got here - last year they were all over the place. |

Hi , I have the same problem as you , I found them flying around the soil ! Could you please explain from where you got those sticky markers ? ...Obi. ?? Many thanks |

Most garden centres and DIY shops have them, so you could try either Obi, or Jumbo, or Coop Bau+Hobby. I found the Obi has a good selection. Barbra. |
