USPS Shipping and Switzerland Shipping Process in General?

I just purchased a skateboard from an Online American store. The shipping will be USPS and I'm wondering how the process will work? Will I get it sent to my door? Is there a process that I have to do. And what is VAT? Customs? The board cost no more than $250. So do I get billed for something? I contacted the Store I purchased the board from and they said it varied between countries. So my main questions are: Do I have to complete a specific process? Has anyone ever used USPS, if so how did it work? Thank you in advance

Re: USPS Shipping and Switzerland Shipping Process in General?

If the package is too big for your mailbox, (which it probably is), the postman will put a slip in your box that tells you to go to the post office to pick it up. The slip will say which exact branch has your package.

If you are lucky and your package has fallen under the radar, you will not be charged any additional taxes/fees. Most likely, though, especially if the packaging is from a business and the box screams "there is a new skateboard in here!", you will receive a bill along with your note from the post office. The amount is supposed to be 17% of the value of the item, but I have heard horror stories of people being charged upwards of 50-80% of the value, so be ready.

Yeah agree with the above, sometimes there is little to no charge and others it is nearly 100% of the price you paid...probably some tariff categories along with judgement of the guy scanning these things. Overall, the USPS and SwissPost seem to work pretty well together in terms of deliver time and lack of damage to package

Re: USPS Shipping and Switzerland Shipping Process in General?

CHF 16 +3% postal charges, + 8% VAT (on the value and postal charges).

So CHF 43.15 (if the USD 250 includes shipping, more if it doesn't)

Tom

Re: USPS Shipping and Switzerland Shipping Process in General?

Might want to try using a consolidated shipper next time to have more control over your packages and customs forms and reduce your costs. PM me for more info.
