any experience with 3D printing?

I am hand-making some clothing items and was thinking of having some buttons printed at a 3D printer. I have no experience with this... can anybody recommend a good person for CAD drafting, and/or a 3D printer in Zürich?
Thanks!

Some of the printers are relatively cheap now. (If you buy one you can provide the services as well!).

But I have seen a company that specializes in 3D printing on Marmorgs. street (?) In Kreis 4 between Langstrasse, Kernstrasse, Stauffacherstrasse and Hohlstrasse.

Sorry it's a treasure-map hunt, but I just walk by it often, and google doesn't help more than 'Marmorgs." street

Thanks for the tip! I don't think I'm ready to invest in a 3d printer yet... just want to try a little experiment for now :-)

Re: any experience with 3D printing?

- suggest you google " Shapeways " - they have service which does this and are well known
- locally I see this service - it's not in Zurich but close

Best of luck to you and your creations!

Shapeways looks like they're geared for what you need

Here's a link with a bunch of links depending on the material and application

Shapeways all the way. I've done plastic and steel thingies and they're fast and very good value.

For basic stuff like buttons i guess you could do a lot with free CAD software here and there.

Re: any experience with 3D printing?

I had a further look at Shapeways. It looks very interesting, even for novices. You can upload a 2D image, and have it converted to a 3D object (this is ideal for something like a button). There is also software for people to design their own jewellry. It is possible to have objects printed in a variety of materials, including plastics, metals, and ceramics. Thanks for the advice... it definitely looks like a good option :-)

Re: any experience with 3D printing?

Just an update in case anyone else is interested in 3D printing. I visited the shop mentioned above in Kreis 4, and they mostly sell printers, rather than doing printing themselves. Shapeways looks good for initial prototypes, or items to be printed in small quantities, but is very expensive. The website http://www.3dhubs.com looks interesting, as you can upload your design, and they send it out for a quote to a number of local printers who are part of the network. This means you can also have your design printed and shipped locally within another country, if you should choose. It also provides a mechanism for more competitive pricing.
