Zürich- Milan and Münich trip advice.

Hi. I needed some advice regarding day trips from Zürich to Münich and Milan.

I have already been to Münich via train before and was considering a trip via bus this time. I see that the cheapest option is with Meinfernbus, in between 15-20 Euros via online booking and takes approximately 4 hours.

That sounds like a good option for me. Has anyone made this journey. And what would your feedback be.

And what would you recommend for Zürich to Milan for day trips? Bus or the train. I am looking for a good and cheap option and one that you personally would recommend.

Thank you in advance for any input.

Enjoy the sunny weather.

Re: Zürich- Milan and Münich trip advice.

I have travelled with Meinfernbus a few times before, but not the Zürich-Munich track, and have always been satisfied with their service. Meanwhile, a friend of mine often comes visiting from Munich with Meinfernbus, and I have never heard of him complaining.
I can't comment about the Zürich-Milan trip as I have never done the track with bus or train before.

Re: Zürich- Milan and Münich trip advice.

I've been to Munich twice with Meinfernbus and it's good, there are some non-stop services which I think are just under 4 hours and goes via Austria, others stop at a couple of places on the north shore of Bodensee and take 4 and a half hours or so. Busses are new, clean and comfortable but a bit cramped if the bus is full.

Milan I've only ever done on the train, I didn't even know of any bus services there.

Milan by train, definitely. Or by car, if you appreciate some beautiful scenarios and would like to have flexibility.

On the way to Milan with car/bus is famous Gothard Tunel with its notorious weekend traffic jams. Friday till Sunday is much better with train, or motorbike

Bus to Munich was very comfortable and we took the direct no stop one. Very convinient but the bus terminus is a few minutes by train from the city center. Easy to reach but be prepared.

Re: Zürich- Milan and Münich trip advice.

I've done Geneva-Munich area many times over by train, and once by switching over to a bus at Zurich (the DB one..not sure of exact name). I must say that while the bus was very comfortable, we got stuck in Friday afternoon traffic getting out of Zurich. So it probably depends on the day/time you wish to travel. And while in theory it had Wi-Fi, it didn't actually work...

If you feel a little adventurous, you can try if somebody is offering the same trip on blablacar (car pooling)
It should be cheap, and it's always great fun (I use it often from Lausanne to Milan)

Fly.

Do you really want to spend eight hours on the train for a day trip?
