Hi,
I've got an inexpensive Seiko watch that I'd like to get repaired. It probably just needs a battery replacement. Obviously there are lots of high end watch shops in Zurich, but I only need something very basic (watch is probably worth less than 200 CHF) and preferably inexpensive.
Anyone have a favorite jeweler?
Thanks!
-Vinay
Sorry I should've specified in the original post/title that I am living in Zurich, so preferably something in or near Zurich.

Have you tried to see if you can do it yourself. Quite simple in most cases with a very small screw driver and a new battery from Jumbo.

For some reason I didn't even think to try! But I should. Do you know if Jumbo carries case wrenches?

It's not expensive to have a watch battery replaced in Manor and they have the correct tools for the job. It is probably cheaper than buying a battery and case wrench and doing it yourself. It's quite easy to crack the 'glass' when trying to put the back onto a watch after a battery replacement.

I bought the battery for 2CHF and did it myself.

However scratching the battery cover is quite easy, and battery terminals are thin. And if unscrewing tiny bits then never do it on a desk over a carpet as they're impossible to find.

Changing a watch battery or modifying a watch strap is easy.... check out You Tube and pay for one of these.... http://www.ebay.ch/itm/144-Pcs-Watch...item19e286b4c6 |

A Mister Minit changed the battery. for my watch for less than 15 CHF (can't remember exactly how much) for me. I remember he said a bit higher first then came down. It was in Oerlikon opposite the train station. See below: http://www.neumarkt-oerlikon.ch/geschaefte.html
You could ask other Mister Minits.

The Mister Minit place has twice broken the glass on OH's watches ( which they obviously had to replace at their expense) so I would never take a watch there.

buy a $20 casio, then you can replace the watch in 20 years when the battery runs out | This user would like to thank Phil_MCR for this useful post: | |

It won't help you since you are in ZH but if someone from Lausanne searches this thread there is a shop in the Lsne Train station across from the Coop Pronto (lake side of the station) that changes batteries for CHF 5.

To be fair, they weren't willing to change the battery there and said thy would have to send it away. It was a Tissot.
(I just checked the official Tissot charges and to be fair to Manor, they're only charging a 20CHF handling fee). | Quote: | | | | Tom LaLa land | | | | | I guess it's a Saturday so you're home from school today?
