I have been through Class 2 in the US (Commercial) and Class 2 in Switzerland (Private).
The exam here includes EKG, urine specimen, and bloodwork IIRC. Also a hearing test if you ever want to fly IFR. I don't think it's gender specific.
You can do a Web-search for JAR-FCL 3 and will find a lot of info about the (IMHO) wayyyyy too restrictive attitude ICAO / JAA take towards general aviation.
