Sewing Alterations in Geneva

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone knows a good place I can get some trousers lengthened in Geneva for a decent price and quality?

( I knew it was time to do something about my regulation length swiss ankle flappers when my friend asked me when the flood was coming ... )

I know I can go to "5 a sec" but it's silly expensive, takes 16 days and involves just another extortionate swiss made-up cost while I would rather find a nice person somewhere who likes sewing, can help me out and would gladly take some francs for their trouble.

Thanks !

M

Ah, I was going to ask the same thing, then found this thread. Does anyone have an recommendations please? Is 5 a sec any good?

I'd like to have my son's shirt taken up just a bit - has anyone tried this themselves or is this too fiddly to attempt? (It is curved, not straight.)

Hmm, bumping quite a old thread, but... has anyone found a good place for alterations in the intervening years?

I have not needed these services, so cannot recommend, but there are a few small alternations shops in the lower end of Paquis. If I needed it done, I would look there first. Sorry no shop names, but they are along the 1 Bus line, about 1 block from the lake.

The one on the right of the road before the Cafe des Arts is ok, but in my view expensive these days (35 chf to turn up trousers)

If you have been wearing your pants too short for a long time, it could be impossible to take them down because you will see the line from the original fold.

Go out & buy new clothes!

If you're intent on waging economic terrorism against the retail clothing industry by having your clothes altered to fit instead of buying new ones, then there are several alterations places. I can think of a small shop between the tram stops at Villereuse and Terrassière, a small place near the Denner at Rieu, and another small place near the Cité end of Route de Florissant. Many dry cleaners also take in stuff for alteration and repair, not just 5 à Sec.

Disclaimer: I haven't used any of these services since (a) I haven't changed shape in a long time and (b) I'm not an economic terrorist.

Kind of a weird post. "economic terrorism by altering your clothes"???

I was just joking about buying new clothes.

I just wanted to point out that if you have a pair of trousers (sometimes skirts too) for a while that the line where the fabric has been folded will show and it will not look nice.

Just something to think about before you pay a lot of money for the alteration. If you want to take the up or take them in that is a different story and you will not see the seams.

Um, not sure about economic terrorism - I have an evening dress I want taken in slightly to fit better. As I paid a lot of money, and have only worn it once, I see it as getting my money's worth.

If I couldn't get it altered, I wouldn't have bought in the first place, and worn something I already had

Good point about creases on trousers/skirts!

I've worn the same evening dress three times. Every time I wore it I had to have it altered. Taken in alot , taken out , taken in !

I guess I'm an economic terrorist as I didn't buy 3 different dresses.
