I was the other day in Kiosk trying to find a descent Swiss computer magazine

Re: Swiss computer magazine?

No need to blame your eyes. Special interest magazines are in a difficult position in Austria and the German speaking part of Switzerland when they have to compete with Germany. And there are few local differences when it comes to computers, so the pressure is high for IT magazines.

There's one monthly Swiss computer magazine, PCtipp. It is addressed at interested beginners and Windows users. (Just to illustrate, the third newest Mac-related article in the problem box is about how you can run Mac OS 8.1 on a Windows PC ). But I have to admit that they sporadically write about Swiss-specific issues.

Personally I prefer the German magazine c't. It covers most aspects of computers without being trivial.

There's some Wired like Magazine that is called anthrazit. It's quite good. You might be able to walk off with a bunch of them at the Orbit-iex show later in the month in Zurich. They were handing them out last year, I'd guess they'll be doing the same this year..

Re: Swiss computer magazine?

Hi,

there is also infoweek (http://www.infoweek.ch/) which is pretty good. Though if it is in the German language why worry if it is swiss or German it would seem pretty irrelevant from which country the magazine orginates. If you want specialist publications there are quite a few good ones, Java Magazine and .Net magazine and a few Linux publications. A very good PC magazine is C't from heise (www.heise.de).

By the way I found reading German computer magazines an excellent way of learning German. I knew what they were trying to say in English so I could read it without always having to look in a dictionary.

Have fun

Martin

Re: Swiss computer magazine?

Are you looking for an English computer magazine or just a local one in German or French?
Best to order your magazines from afar if you want English.
The French and German ones are mostly from neighboring countries so prices and items are not exactly the market place here.

Re: Swiss computer magazine?

Thank you guys for all your responses!

Yeap i am looking for one in German for all the mentioned reasons.

-passive learning
-awareness of market-prices
-writing style of swiss people
-and just a habit of buying a local pc magazine where ever i am.

I'll go first for the one that reassembles Wired because i just love that magazine!

Is there one (local)about pc-games at least?

I've noticed the .Net one but it was a little too German for me is there a similar effort in English? And from what level of .Net and above is there a point to buy it?
