Searching for shops selling hobby/craft or yoga/mediation items.

HI Guys,

I am fairly new to Switzerland (Zürich area) and I am searching for some specific shops. I am looking for Hobby shops or perhaps better craft shops, Yarn shop and finally a shop that sells meditation items (in Germany these were small Indian shops in the US they were called earth ware shops or wellness shops).

Hobby/craft stores: somewhere I can buy your basic craft items
Yarn store: somewhere I can buy large rolls of yarn like 200-260 grams. Not small 50 gram rolls for 5-6 CHF.. like is at Coop and Migros etc...

A shop that sells meditation items: Like Incense and candles, oils, yoga and meditation items and such...

In Germany I had them but I am not sure where to look here. Normally these shops aren't something that jumps out at you like a Coop and basically Coop isn't going to supply me with what I am looking for.

I live in Benglen near Fällanden the nearest cities are Dubendorf (sp?) and Zürich...

Thanks for all your help

Re: Searching for Hobby or Craft stores

There's a rocks-and-smellies shop near the Grossmunster in Zurich: I can't remember the name of the street, but it's the pedestrianised one that leads up to Oberdorf, in the direction of Stadelhofen station.

You can't miss it: You'll smell it a good 50m before you see it.

I've got an idea that there's a craft shop somewhere round there, too.

Hobby/Craft goodies:

Migros has a hobby center branch called Do It+Garden
http://www.doit-garden-migros.ch/
Coop has a similar version called Coop Bau+Hobby
http://www4.coop.ch/bauundhobby/
Look up theses websites for a location closest to you. Once can find everything under the sun here, for craft projects.

Meditation goodies:
Walk down the Niederdorf in Zurich, your bound to find something there.

Have a look at this thread for handicrafts:

Maybe Manor has large yarn rolls, or Anna Lana.

Re: Searching for Hobby or Craft stores

There is what looks like a specialist yarn shop on Kreuzstrasse, between Seefeldstrasse and Muehlebachstrasse, in Seefeld. The best way to get there is get the number 2 or 4 tram and get off at the stop called Kreuzstrasse (2 after Bellevue), then just walk up the hill, sticking to the left side of the street.

That shop on Kreuzstrasse is called Vil-Fil - they do have larger balls of yarn but it is fairly pricey, with an emphasis on higher-end yarns. Manor has more of the cheaper yarn and Coop has a decent selection too.

Re: Large DIY/arts&crafts store [Zurich]

Hi,

I have found Coop Bau & Hobby and the Migros Do it + Garden have a large (and good) selection of craft products. Jumbo also has some craft things but not as much as the Coop and Migros.

As for a purely dedicated craft shop in Zurich hopefully some of the others may know as we do not live in Zurich!

Hope this helps a little!

Kadie

Kramer-Krieg Papeterie in Lausanne is fabulous. It is directly next door to the United Colors of Benetton and kitty-corner from the Globus on Rue Centrale. All kinds of craft supplies, much better than Coop.

Take up beer drinking with the English.
Go walkin in the mountains with the Swiss.
Cross country skiing with Norwegians.
Party with the Indians.
i.e. your hobby should involve other people.
